With everyone sitting at home and travel taking a standstill, earning status this year is going to be quite challenging for most. Although Hyatt will extend your current status another year, many desire to earn an even higher status or those desired milestone benefits. If you are a Hyatt card holder, now is your opportunity to earn more nights towards status.

Back in April, Hyatt announced a promotion with both their no-longer available Hyatt Credit Card and their relatively new World of Hyatt Credit Card. They increased card holder benefits where you might actually be able to earn your desired status from the comfort of your home — but that is about to end on June 30, 2020.

Earn 10 nights towards status

For all new World of Hyatt Credit Card members who apply between April 15 and August 31, 2020, you’ll receive 10 nights towards status. Typically, cardholders earn 5 nights yearly, so this is double the offer. This promotion is just for this particular year, so starting in 2021, you’ll be back down to earning the regular 5 nights towards status.

Although the World of Hyatt Credit Card automatically comes with Discoverist status, this will make it easier to earn mid-tier Explorist status or top-tier Globalist status. You’ll also be one-step closer to earning milestone benefits. You’ll earn the following benefits and status when you complete the below number of nights:

  • 20 nights: Earn 2 Club Lounge awards
  • 30 nights (Explorist status): Earn 2 more Club Lounge awards, plus a category 1-4 free night certificate
  • 40 nights: Select one of three options — bonus points, $100 gift gift card or a FIND Experience Savings.
  • 50 nights: 2 Suite Night awards
  • 60 nights (Globalist status): 2 more Suite Night awards, plus a category 1-7 free night certificate, plus a My Hyatt Concierge Agent
  • 70, 80, 90 and 100 nights: Select one of two options — 10,000 bonus points or one more Suite Night award

With already 10 nights under your belt, this will put you half way towards earning the 2 Club Lounge awards at the 20 night level and already one-third of the way towards the 30 night benefits, which gets you Explorist status.

Not to mention you’ll also earn up to 50,000 World of Hyatt points, which I value at approximately $1,000 towards free nights at Hyatt properties.

  • World of Hyatt Credit Card: Earn up to 50,000 bonus points — 25,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening, plus an additional 25,000 bonus points after you spend $6,000 total on purchases within the first 6 months of account opening. $95 annual fee.

Earn more nights towards status with credit card spend

For all existing credit card holders as well as new members who apply now, you’ll be able to earn more nights towards status with your credit card spend.

Typically World of Hyatt Credit Card members earn 2 nights towards status for every $5,000 spent on their card. However between now and June 30, you’ll instead earn 3 nights towards status for the same amount spent. This is quite an increase and could absolutely help you earn your desired status much quicker.

Additionally, even legacy Hyatt Credit Card members will have the opportunity to earn status with spend. Although this card is no longer available to new members and does not typically come with the same spend benefit as the World of Hyatt Credit Card, these card members will earn 2 nights towards status for every $5,000 spent on the card.

Having status has been a lifesaver for my family when traveling to Hyatt resorts.

Overall

If you are looking to earn status and do not currently have the World of Hyatt Credit Card then right now is a great time to apply. I personally think Hyatt status is by far the best status to have and love the benefit of complimentary breakfast, lounge access, confirmed suite upgrades in advance, resort fees waived and more. Also, my family typically earns status on a yearly basis with a combination of World of Hyatt Credit Card spend and hotel stays, so getting the 3 nights for every $5,000 put on the card will be huge for us.

Even though our Globalist status will not expire until Feb. 2022, I still am eager to earn those milestone benefits as they will get us bonus points, free night awards and more suite upgrades. That is when we start to travel again…

Any idea when the additional elite night per $5,000 spend on the card will post? I spent a touch over $5,000 for my statement that closed a few days ago but was only credited with 2 elite nights.
