Yesterday I wrote about some big changes coming to the Hyatt credit card sign up offer. On June 29, 2017, the bonus offer is changing from 2 free nights to use at any Hyatt hotel worldwide to 40,000 Hyatt points. Everything else about the card is staying as is. This is a very popular card (especially with the category 1-4 certificate you receive on an annual basis) and many people are wondering if they should get the card now or after the change takes place. In my post from yesterday, I said that the 2 free nights are worth it only if you are looking to redeem at a category 6 or 7 hotel (the two highest hotel categories within the Hyatt award chart). The free nights can then be thought of as either 50,000 or 60,000 points, which is much better then the 40,000 point sign up bonus. Learn more about the various credit card offers here.
But… they can actually be worth 100,000 points!
Over the past few years, Hyatt has introduced some all-inclusive hotels. There are two types of properties: Hyatt Zilara which are adults only (18+) and then Hyatt Ziva which have no age restrictions. There are overall 6 all-inclusive properties located in Cancun, Jamaica, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo. These 6 properties range from 20,000-25,000 points a night for single or double occupancy. Where the hotels get expensive on points is if you want to add an additional person. They charge 10,000 or 12,500 points a night per person for anyone 3 years of age and older. So that means a family of 4, or even just 4 adult friends, can pay up to 50,000 points a night. Although, if there is availability and you have 4 in a room, you are better off just getting two rooms (hopefully adjoining) since you’ll get more space for the same amount of points.
While the terms of the Hyatt credit card state that the free night is for single or double occupancy, many many reports show that it covered up to 4 guests at the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara all-inclusive properties. No additional points or money were required. I personally cannot verify this from personal experience, but I do know people personally who were able to use the free night certificates and get 2 adults and 2 kids (over 2) covered. Now, things can always change so this might not always be the case, but from all reports I’ve read, people have had great success. Although, sometimes it was easier for folks to make the reservation with the two adults and then call back later and add the other kids/adults. The reservations team usually has a hard time with these resorts – which I actually did experience first-hand when trying to add my toddler (who was free) to the reservation.
At the Hyatt Ziva Cancun, for example, a family of four will cost 50,000 points a night. So assuming the free nights certificates will work (which they should), the 2 free night certificates from the sign up bonus is essentially getting you a 100,000 point value! This is significantly higher then the new 40,000 point offer that is coming in just a few days. BTW – I stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun a few months ago and I highly recommend it!

But, as in everything else, how’s the availability at these all inclusive properties?
@Kalboz – I only have experience booking at the Hyatt Ziva and found availability to be pretty good
What an absolutely disgusting post since you can’t verify this.
There is too much speculation for this post to have value.
