This week, Staples is offering $20 gift card (after rebate) when you purchase $300 in MasterCard gift cards. While Staples doesn’t offer a $300 MasterCard gift card you can purchase a $100 and $200 one to get to the $300 amount needed. Although, the $100 gift card costs $5.95 and the $200 gift card costs $6.95 in activation fees. While this will cost you $12.90 you will get a $20 Staples gift card which you can then use to purchase any item in store or another merchant gift card to use elsewhere. So you are sorta up $7.10.
Unfortunately though, you will not be able to combine this with the Staples Amex Offer that I wrote about last week as this MasterCard promotion is for in-store and the Amex offer is for online.
This is really only a good deal if you use a credit card that gives you 5x points at office supply stores, i.e., Chase Ink Bold, Chase Ink Plus, Chase Ink Classic, and Chase Ink Cash (you can learn more about these Chase Ultimate Reward cards here), or the American Express SimplyCash (you can learn more about this card here). If you get 5x points on your purchase, you’ll end up with 1,564 points (either Ultimate Reward points or Membership Reward points). If you value your points at 2 cents per point, this is worth about $31 in points.

Note: at the Staples I visited this morning, they said that you can only make 3 separate purchases with the same credit card for the rebate to print out. Not sure if that was true, but that’s what I was told.
In store only or from my easy chair?
Is this deal available online? Or is only available in store?
@MK – I believe in-store, but the weekly circular online did not specify.
@dealswelike
can you use the $20 staples card for a future MC GC purchase?
thanks
