Post #7 compliments of Mr. Deals…
First off, happy holidays to everyone and I hope everyone is looking forward to the new year. Sorry for the delayed Sunday post, but if you haven’t read it already, Mrs. Deals has taken me on a lovely vacation to Thailand. Needless to say, when on vacation, it’s very easy to lose track of what day it is. Also, spending time on the internet is not my first choice of a vacation activity. So with that said, I’ll keep this quick.
I’ve come to expect certain things when traveling under the benefits of Mrs. Deals. Fancy hotels, automatic upgrades to suites, access to lounges, and business class flights are just some of the amenities I get to enjoy thanks to my wife. This post is about that last one, business class flights. You may remember my last post when Mrs. Deals so generously upgraded me to business class on my red eye home from LA. Well, one would assume similar treatment when flying nearly 20 hours right? Not so much here.
After a grueling 6 hour flight from JFK to London on a plane that was too small to fly overseas, Mrs. Deals and I scrambled through Heathrow to get to our Thai Airways flight to Bangkok. Due to some day of fiasco’s and flight changes, we didn’t have seats until we checked in back at JFK. So we didn’t know where we’d be on the 11 hour flight. We quickly learned that not only were we not sitting together, we were both in MIDDLE SEATS! I’m ok with not sitting next to Mrs. Deals, but middle seats? What kind of treatment is this for the husband of a points and miles obsessed travel blogger!
Drastic measures had to be taken at this point. First priority was seeing if we could sit together on this flight (more of a priority for her – love you Mrs. Deals!). She’s actually great to sit next to next to as she’s pretty little and when she sleeps she doesn’t sprawl out all over the place. The flight was packed, so chances of getting window or aisle seats were shot. Since it was a 3, 4, 3 setup on the plane, our only hope was finagling two middle seats in the 4 section. Luckily the folks on Thai Airways were super helpful, rearranged a few passengers for us, and we were in business (not class unfortunately).
All in all it wasn’t the worst flight we’ve had. Thai Airways is actually super nice, with larger than average seats (so it seemed to us) and the ability to recline quite further than I’ve seen on any plane out there. The movie selection was solid and there was plenty of food, drink and entertainment for a very long flight.
Now I am just keeping my fingers crossed that Mrs. Deals got us a better seating arrangement for our flight home!
