American is having a 25,000 mile giveaway, although as we all know, chances of winning is slim. However, as a consolation prize you’ll be given 2,500 miles back on your next award redemption. To receive your rebate you must book your flight between June 26, 2013 and July 24, 2013 for travel September 4, 2013 and November 20, 2013.
Also remember that many of the American Airlines credit cards give you 10% back on award travel, and both rebates can be combined!
So with both rebates, let’s say you are looking for a US domestic flight that typically costs 25,000 miles, you’ll end up spending only 20,000 miles. For an international flight to Europe, for example, a 60,000 mile ticket will ultimately cost you only 51,500 miles. With the credit card rebate though, you are limited to only 10,000 miles in rebates a year. Also, you must have the miles in your account to spend initially as it comes back as a rebate not off the mileage amount you need to spend.

I wasn’t able to find anything in the T&C that indicated the 2,500 miles rebate wouldn’t apply for a one way redemption. That could mean that you get a one way transcontinental for as little as 9000 miles, combined with the 10% credit card rebate. Anything to indicate I might be wrong?
@HB – I believe you are correct but will fully verify that when I am back in my computer.
One question I can’t seem to find answer for: if you begin travel during those dates, but don’t complete it during those dates because of a stopover, will you still get the bonus?
I have 3 AA award flights booked between those dates, but they were booked before this promotion. Is there anyway I could still apply for the rebate?
@sean – I’d suggest calling aa and asking for an exception.
