UPDATE: This offer has expired.
As I wrote about last month, Delta recently increased the sign up bonus for five of their co-branded American Express credit cards, this includes: Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express, Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express, Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express, Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express, and Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card. These five cards are in addition to the newly announced product at the beginning of last September, the Blue Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express.
That means there are a total of six co-branded American Express Delta credit cards. And since all are different products from one another, you are eligible for the sign up bonus for all six cards (as long as you are approved and meet the respective minimum spend per card). So if you are really looking to increase your Delta balance or have a desired trip where you’d like to redeem Delta miles, right now is a great opportunity to apply for the cards – especially since all cards are currently at the highest bonus offer ever.
There is one huge caveat though – American Express only allows you to have 5 credit cards open at a given time. All six of these Delta cards are “credit cards” and not “charge cards”. You are actually allowed a total of 10 Amex cards – 5 credit cards and 5 charge cards. So unfortunately the chances of being approved for all 6 of these credit cards at the same time are slim, especially since I am assuming most of you already have an open Amex credit card already. Cards that do not count against the credit card limit of 5 include: American Express Mercedes-Benz Platinum, Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN, The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN, and The Platinum Card® from American Express – these are all charge cards. You can learn more about the maximum number of American Express credit cards you can have as well as which ones count as a credit card vs. charge card here.

As you can see from above, the two Gold cards will give you up to 60,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spend requirement, the two Platinum cards will give you 70,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spend requirement, the Reserve will give you 40,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spend requirement, and the Blue card will give you 10,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spend requirement. This will give you a total of 310,000 bonus Delta miles just from credit card sign up bonuses! Of course, the chances of someone applying for all six of these cards now is probably slim (and I would not even recommend, nor would you be approved for them all), but this is a reminder that you can still earn the sign up bonus on more then 1! Remember, the two Gold cards have a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year (then $95 every year thereafter) and the Blue card has no annual fee! The Platinum and Reserve cards, however, are quite expensive, so you’ll need to see if the benefits that work for you outweigh the annual fee.
