There are many new hotel promotions starting in 2018 where you’ll be able to earn a ton of bonus points on your stay! This is a great way for business travelers to really increase their hotel points to be able to redeem for a free vacation for pleasure! Of course leisure travelers can also take advantage of these promos (and I encourage you to do so!), but those traveling often (typically business travelers) will definitely be able to earn the most points to redeem for free nights.
Here is a recap of the four new promotions that were recently announced with Hilton, Marriott, Starwood, and InterContinental Hotels:
Hilton “Points Unlimited”
You’ll earn 2,000 bonus points on every stay and then an additional 10,000 bonus points for every 5 stays. There is no cap at the number of points you can earn! The best thing about this promotion is that you’ll earn points on both PAID and FREE NIGHT stays! While there are a few caveats this is a huge rarity in the points and miles world! This promotion runs January 1 through April 30, 2018. You must register for this promotion PRIOR to checking out for your stay. You can register here.Â
And as I mentioned above, most stays using points will earn the bonus points too. Although not all! Based on this FlyerTalk thread as long as you earn points from extra room charges on a free night stay, you’ll still earn the bonus points. That mean you can charge anything to your room, even a bottle of water from the convenient store, to trigger the bonus points. Unfortunately though, a few select properties under the Hilton umbrella are excluded from earning points on a free night stay. Excluded properties = Hampton Inn, Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, and Tru by Hilton. Still a great opportunity for those looking to stay at other Hilton properties, especially if you are redeeming points at a low level property!
Marriott “MegaBonus”
Starting after your second paid stay, you’ll earn:
- 2,000 bonus points per stay
- An additional 1,000 bonus points per stay that falls on a weekend
thing to note is that you are capped at earning 50,000 points through this Marriott MegaBonus Promotion. This promotion runs January 16 through April 15, 2018, but you must register by March 31, 2017.
Starwood “Great Weeks, Grand Weekends”
Earn double points on all eligible paid stays, but if your stay falls on a weekend you’ll earn an additional 500 bonus points. You’ll earn points on your second stay between January 16 and April 15, 2018.
You’ll need to register for this promotion by March 31, 2018, although I suggest just doing so now so you do not forget. Also, make sure to take a look at the list of properties participating in this promotion so you aren’t taken for a surprise later on.
IHG “Accelerate”
You’ll have to complete specific tasks tied to your account to earn bonus points for every eligible stay (make sure to read the terms per task to ensure your rate qualifies). This promotion runs January 1 and April 30, 2018 and you’ll need to register here.Â
Remember, everyone will see a different offer where some might be better then others. My personal offer:
Keep in mind, “tasks†can overlap, so a single stay might check check multiple boxes. While the best situation to earn the bonus points is if you have upcoming IHG stays anyways, there are some situations when it might be worth it to do a mattress run to get the points. It really depends on your offer and hotel prices.
