During Q2, the Chase Freedom credit card was offering 5% cash back when shopping at Wholesale Clubs (Costco, BJ’s, Sam’s Club). This was a great rotating category and fortunately, Chase decided to keep this offer available through the end of the year. That means during Q3 and Q4, all Wholesale Clubs will be included in the increased 5% cash back bonus up to $1,500 per quarter.
During Q3 (which runs July, August, and September), the bonus categories are Wholesale Clubs and Restaurants. During Q4 (which runs October, November, and December), the bonus categories are still not yet be determined, but Wholesale Clubs is definitely one of them. In the past, it usually has been some combo of Zappos, Amazon.com, large retailers like Macy’s, Sears, etc.
How Does Chase’s 5% Cash Back Work?
For every quarter that you spend the maximum of $1,500, you’ll receive 7,500 points. After the maximum spend, you’ll earn 1x point on all purchases. You can either redeem those Chase points for $75 cash back, or if you have a premier Chase Ultimate Rewards credit card (Chase Ink Bold, Chase Ink Plus, Chase Sapphire Preferred) transfer the points to one of those accounts and then either use them at the Chase travel portal or transfer them to a partner loyalty program.
For those new to the Chase Freedom card, this is a great card for your typical spending categories, i.e., gas, groceries, dining, travel, etc. Earning 5x points during the active time frame is a huge bonus, especially since this card comes with no annual fee. Read this prior post on Maximizing your Chase Ultimate Reward points.
Remember though, you MUST activate your Q2 bonus to actually receive the points (must activate by June 14, 2016)!

Just remember it’s NOT unlimited 5% for the rest of the year. It’s 5% back up to $1,500 in purchases per qtr.
Would samsclub.com and Costco.com work?
Will gas purchased at Costco also count as 5% ?
@Bhanik – I do not believe so.
