UPDATE: This offer has expired.
The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express card ranks very high on my list as a personal favorite credit card to have and to use. This card is less than four years old and become very popular since it was the first no annual fee card to be introduced that earns “full” Membership Reward points!
So here are my top 5 reasons why I like this card:
1. There is No Annual Fee!
While some American Express credit cards come with a hefty annual fee (I am looking at you Amex Platinum cards!), this card carries no annual fee year after year. Additionally, there is no fee for authorized users. While there are a few other American Express personal credit cards that carry no annual fee, the perks are not nearly as good.
2. You’ll Earn “Full” American Express Membership Reward Points!
There are two different Amex Membership Reward credit cards – those that earn full Membership Reward points and those that earn limited Membership Reward points. Accounts with full Membership Reward points means that you can transfer your points from your account to a partner hotel or airline program. If you have a credit card that earns limited Membership Reward points you will NOT be able to transfer your points to a partner loyalty programs and can only redeem your points for merchandise, gift cards, etc. Transferring your points to a partner program typically get you a much higher value for your points!
The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express is the only personal American Express credit card that earns you full Membership Reward points with no annual fee! The only other card that earns full points with no annual fee is a business credit card – The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express. This is huge since you’ll never have to worry about paying an annual fee and will always have an open Membership Rewards account that earns full points. This is important because if you cancel an Amex card that earns Membership Reward points, you will lose your points unless you have another Amex card that also earns full Membership Reward points. So let’s say you currently have an American Express Platinum card and are thinking about canceling the card, just as an example. You currently have points in your account and you do not want to transfer them out to a loyalty partner just yet as you aren’t 100% sure where you want to use them. If you have one of the two cards mentioned above then you will not lose your points and still be able to transfer them to a loyalty program at another time. You can learn more about this here.
3. Take Advantage of Amex Offers
With all American Express cards you can receive a statement credit when you spend a certain amount at a participating merchant. There are various offers that pop up quite often and you can save hundreds of dollars a year if you take advantage. I personally save north of $1,000 per year with these Amex Offers amongst all my cards! With many credit cards the statement credit will help offset the annual fee, but with this card since there is no annual fee, all statement credits you receive are pure profit! You can also take advantage of Amex Offers on authorized users. So any authorized user on the card (and it is free to add an authorized user) can also receive these statement credits. Many Amex Offers that I’ve taken advantage of include purchasing gift cards to other merchants, purchasing Visa/Amex gift cards that I can use anywhere I so desire, or even purchasing gift cards to resell at a profit! Other Amex Offers have included receiving a statement credit on paying my phone bill, grocery shopping, hotels, etc. – all purchases that I would have made anyways! Here is my real life scenario where I saved/made $1,000 in just a few month period!
4. Earn 2x Points at US Supermarkets
With this card you’ll earn 2x points at US supermarkets, on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1x). Not only that, if you use your card 20 or more times on purchases in a billing period you’ll earn 20% more points on those purchases (less returns and credits). So if you are eligible for the 20% bonus on a monthly basis, that means you are really earning 2.4x points at US supermarkets. If you value your Membership Reward points between 1.5 and 2 cents per point, that is somewhere between a 3.6% and 4.8% return. In my opinion, this is the best no annual fee card for your US Supermarket purchase! While there is another American Express credit card that will give you higher cash back at US supermarkets, it comes with an annual fee (the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express gives 6% cash back at U.S. Supermarkets up to $6,000 per year in purchases – then 1%). You can learn more about earning 6% back at U.S. Supermarkets here.
5. Receive all American Express Card Benefits
Although this is a no annual fee card, you still receive many of the popular American Express benefits on purchases, such as return protection and purchase protection. Return protection will allow you to receive a refund of the full purchase price of an item if you try to return an eligible item within 90 days from when it is purchased and the merchant will not take it back. Let’s say you purchase a final sale item from your favorite clothing store, you get home and it doesn’t fit you. If the store will not take it back you are able to file a claim with Amex and they will refund you the price paid. This is up to $300 per item, up to $1,000 in total claims per calendar year. Purchase protection is similar but covers you if an item purchased within the past 90 days is damaged, stolen, or lost. Let’s say you just bought a new phone and within 90 days it accidentally falls into a pool. You can file a claim with American Express to refund you the purchase price!
While many credit cards offer similar protection, it is great to see a no annual fee card offer the same benefits! I have personally taken advantage of the return protection benefit many times. I purchase items quite often from those deal sites online and typically they are final sale or only offer a 30 day return window (i..e, RueLaLa, Zulily, etc.). If the clothes do not fit, I am able to file a claim with American Express and get the purchase price for the item refunded!
Overall…
As previously mentioned, this is a great card and one of my personal favorites. It holds a spot in my wallet and while I use this card when I go grocery shopping I also receive a bunch of statement credits throughout the year on Amex Offers.

I too have had this card for quite awhile. I use it all the time and the benefits they periodically offer are worthwhile.
Do you think the annual fee for the Everday Preferred is worth it or better to just have the Everyday card?
@Gordon – It comes down to how much you’ll put on the card. It also depends on how much you spend in the bonus categories, such as U.S. gas stations and U.S. supermarkets. I personally have the Everyday card as that works out better for me.
