Uber is running an awesome promotion over the next 5 weeks where you can pay only $5 to get between certain locations in Manhattan and Williamsburg (Brooklyn).
The locations include anywhere along the L subway line (Manhattan locations: 10th street to 18th street; Brooklyn locations: zip codes 11211 and 11249)
The $5 rides is for uberPOOL pick ups only which means there is a chance the driver might pick up somewhere else along the route. I’ve written about uberPOOL in the past, but with it you can request a ride for up to a maximum of 2 riders per pickup. You will then be matched (possibly) with other people requesting a ride and there can be up to four passengers in the car total. I’ve used it before and have always had a good experience. I’ve also met some interested passengers to chat with. Even if they do not match you with another passenger, the ride is still $5 for this particular promotion!
The $5 fares will run between 11:30pm on Fridays until 5am on Mondays from April 17 through May 18, 2015.
Referral links to get free rides: If you are new to Uber you can get a free ride up to $20. Feel free to leave your own Uber referral code in the comments section below.

People who complain about uber should look at this as a real example of a public service. They are replicating transit while it is shut down. Hopefully it is going to run on weekends too. Great idea!
Good point Tom – I was wondering why they were doing this but the L line will be shut down over the weekend for the next 5 weeks. As a one-time resident of williamsburg I know what a pain that can be, without the L train it can cost $20 to get to manhattan, or an extra hour trying to find an alternative. Public service indeed!
