UPDATE: This promotion is now dead – shame on you Best Buy for changing the terms and never notifying customers.Â
I received a great coupon in my email inbox today where you can get $50 off a $100 purchase at Best Buy (make sure to print out the coupon link and bring it to your local store if you are interested in taking advantage). There are two caveats to this deal:
- You must use a MasterCard to get the discount
- You must purchase the item in-store, online does not count (including items purchased online for in-store pickup)
Additionally, there are a list of items that do not qualify as well. Coupon excludes the following:
Home Theater: Bose® audio products; Polk Audio; Denon; Boston Acoustics; select Samsung home audio, TVs, Blu-ray DVD players; Sony home audio & headphones, TVs & 3D glasses, Blu-ray players, DVD players & set top boxes; Magnolia Products: Samsung TVs and Blu-ray players, Sony TVs, Blu-ray players and projectors, Sharp 90†TVs, Epson projectors, URC, Sennheiser, Sonance, Bowers & Wilkins, MartinLogan, McIntosh, Oppo and SpeakerCraft Audio and special order merchandise; Portable Electronics: Apple® iPods and Bose products; Digital Imaging: Sony camcorders, digital cameras, NEX cameras, DSLR cameras, lenses & flashes; Nikon DSLR & compact system cameras, lenses & flashes & P510; GoPro cameras; Phones: no-contract phones, broadband and airtime cards on all carriers, no contract airtime cards; gaming hardware; Pacific Sales products; Geek Squad®: C.O.D. Geek Squad services.
So there is a lengthy list of items that do not apply, however, after searching this deal this morning, I see an already 28-page thread discussing this on Slickdeals. Many are wondering if gift card purchases can apply since they are not listed as an exclusion from this deal. A few have tried thus far and have been unsuccessful, but you never know! Since the coupon just came out and most stores don’t open till 10am, there is little success stories so far for the morning – I’ll update as more unfolds.
This coupon expires January 27, 2013. This is a great deal if there is something you need or if you are able to purchase a gift card, so enjoy!

OMG ..this deal is so cool….
Please give us some update if available.
@Ted – My personal experience was that I was able to purchase two $50 Amazon Kindle gift cards and they applied the $50 off coupon. Amazon Kindle gift cards can actually be used on ANY amazon purchase. The coupon didn’t automatically work and required a managers approval. The manager did override the coupon and applied the $50 off with no questions asked.
FYI, I tried a Kindle GC, a BBY GC, and a Visa GC. None of them worked unfortunately and I haven’t seen reports of them working anywhere else without a manager’s approval.
It only says Apple iPods, and nothing about iPads. Wonder if this will qualify for discount on iPad?
Wow thanks for posting. I would have just pitched this in the trash. Looks like I’m now going to get that new printer after all!
Amazon kindle gc good enough for me.
There is an outrage fired on slick deals about the same.

Will this work at Best Buy in Canada?
I think the list on what you can buy will be shorter than what you can’t buy.
$100 worth of Amazon GC’s for $50 ! Thanks for posting!
got $100 amazon giftcard and mgr told me he will block it after my transaction.
Not working in BB (LA area)… the manager mentioned that GCs (amazon etc) are excluded.
I had the exact same experience as DealsWeLike buying kindle giftcards.
Gift cards are excluded at Bay AreA stores. But I picked up a Samsung tablet nevertheless…
no GC’s worked at my store, but I was able to stock up on kcups, and got a roku2xs

Txs much Deals! Posted and sending readers as well as Text Alert subscribers over to your post. – Rene
Scott C. nice idea on the kcups 🙂 Maybe I could also stock up on candy. Too bad about the GC’s it sounds like unless the local manager overrides you can’t although you’d think you could based on the coupon wording as it doesn’t exclude it.
I was so bummed when i saw this as I just spent $100 on earbuds today. Then i saw the exlusions and whew the item I bought was not eligible anyways as its Sennheiser
they changed the offer, and it seems to be only for today. I’m passing on it, it’s 2 degrees outside and I’m not up for driving that far in the cold….
@farsighted99…… Really? Damn….
I should have gone when i saw ur post first thing this morning.. couldn’t get off work, went around 6pm they change the items you couldn’t buy included gift card
I am assuming Xbox is good to buy? I dont see it on the exclusion.
@David – right now it depends on the location and the cashier you get. They have changed the terms from the time the coupon went out so there is no way of knowing.
at BB in Long Island and they will not honor the coupon at all! saying that it was a misprint and expired already and was only valid on 1-21-13. they have a big sign printed up! “we apologize for inconvenience”
Fred. same here, Miami beach, FL. Best buy is crap, i will never, ever step foot in a store again.
Yes, same in Honolulu and San Diego… they didn’t want to take it and said misprint… arg
Does anyone know if this coupon will work for the $99 Xbox 360 you can purchase with the two year subscription to Xbox Live?
@leo – this promotion is dead, unfortunately.
