UPDATE: These offers have expired.
Over the next 36 hours, there are 7 credit card that are offering amazing sign up offers that will be expiring. If you’ve been looking to pick up a new card, now is definitely the time! There is a Hyatt credit card, a United credit card, four Southwest credit cards, and one American Express Membership Rewards card! In addition to the bonus points you’ll receive, the cards come with many perks, such as: The Hyatt credit card is great for those looking to earn Hyatt Globalist status, the United credit card will offer you complimentary global entry, the Southwest credit card can help you get the Southwest Companion Pass, and the American Express Gold card will give you the highest number of points for foodies! Just keep in mind Chase’s “5/24” rule!
1. United MileagePlus Explorer Credit Card (expires January 8, 2019)
With the United MileagePlus Explorer Credit Card offer you’ll earn up to 65,000 miles — earn 40,000 bonus miles after you spend $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months, plus an additional 25,000 bonus miles after you spend $10,000 total on purchases in the first 6 months. This is the best offer we’ve seen for the card this year, although the minimum spend is slightly more (and seems to be the new trend with many Chase credit cards, unfortunately). Learn more about the offer here.
One of the best perks of this card is that it comes with global entry reimbursement! Typically it is only the really expensive annual fee cards where we see this benefit, so to get up to $100 back on your Global Entry or TSA Pre✓® Fee is pretty awesome (and since Global Entry only costs $100, it ultimately makes it free!). The card also allow you and a companion to check your first bag for free, gives you priority boarding, and comes with 2 United Club passes per year.
Sign Up Bonus Value: United miles are typically worth somewhere between 1.5 and 2 cents per mile (although those looking to redeem for business and first class will see a much higher value). That means the 65,000 miles from the sign up bonus are worth around $1,375.
2. The World of Hyatt Credit Card (expires January 9, 2019)
With the The World of Hyatt Credit Card you’ll earn up to 60,000 bonus points. You’ll earn the first 40,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months and then an additional 20,000 bonus points after you spend $6,000 total on purchases within the first 6 months of account opening. This is actually the best offer we’ve seen for this card and will drop down to 50,000 bonus points. Learn more about the offer here.
This card comes with many benefits where they makes up for annual fee, plus more. The benefits include:
- Free night annually: With this card, you’ll earn a free night certificate for a category 1-4 property every single anniversary. The certificate is valid for 12 months and can be redeemed for many high end properties, such as the Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo, Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa, Hyatt Regency Boston, etc. I personally put a conservative value of $200 on the free night certificate, but when used at certain properties can easily be worth $500-$750! The free night certificate absolutely pays for the annual fee, even if you aren’t using it at some of the top resorts.
- Free night after $15,000 spend: In addition to the annual free night certificate you receive, if you spend $15,000 on your card in your cardmember anniversary year (not calendar year), you’ll earn an additional free night certificate (still valid for a category 1-4 night certificate).
- Earn status easier: You’ll automatically earn 5 nights towards status and for every $5,000 you put on the card, you’ll earn 2 nights towards status as well. There is no cap to the number of nights you can earn towards status, so for those with high credit card spend, this is a great way to receive all the perks that come with Explorist and Globalist status as well as meeting those milestone rewards sooner!
Sign Up Bonus Value: I personally value Hyatt points at around 2 cents per point, so the 60,000 points from the sign up bonus is worth $1,200 for me. On top of that, the annual free night certificate is worth at least $200 and if you can spend $15,000 on the card that is worth another $200. Our family’s strategy this year is also going for Hyatt Globalist status and one way we will make that happen is by credit card spend, so this card is worth even more in my household!
3. Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card (expires January 9, 2019)
With the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card you can earn up to 60,000 bonus points. You’ll earn 40,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months, plus earn another 20,000 points after you spend $12,000 on purchases within your first year. While this is the exact same offer as the other two Southwest co-branded cards below, the benefits are quite different. Learn more about the offer here.
With the Priority version of the card, you’ll receive some additional benefits, which include:
- A $75 Southwest travel credit every year, plus
- 7,500 bonus points every year after your Cardmember anniversary (worth about $110), plus
- Four upgraded boarding passes per year when available, plus
- 20% back on inflight purchases made with the card
While this card comes with a $149 annual fee, once you factor in the $75 travel credit, that brings your yearly fee down to $74. When you then take into consideration the value of the 7,500 bonus points, you are coming out ahead and profiting $36! The math: $149 annual fee – $75 travel credit – $110 in points. Of course that doesn’t take include the value of the four upgraded boarding passes you’ll receive, but that is just an added bonus!
Sign Up Bonus Value: Southwest has a pretty straight forward fixed value for their points where each point is worth around 1.5 cents per point (there is a slight variation now that they’ve introduced some peak vs. off peak pricing and international awards price out a little different because of the taxes, but we are talking about .1 cents in either direction). This means the 60,000 points from the sign up bonus are worth $900 towards a Southwest “Wanna Getaway” ticket. On top of that, the 60,000 points count towards the amazing Southwest Companion Pass!
4. Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card (expires January 9, 2019)
With the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card you can earn up to 60,000 bonus points. You’ll earn 40,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months, plus earn another 20,000 points after you spend $12,000 on purchases within your first year. This is the least expensive card compared to the other Southwest co-branded cards, but the benefits are slightly less. Learn more about the offer here.
With this card, you’ll pay a $69 annual fee, but you’ll only receive 3,000 bonus points on your account anniversary. These points are worth about $45, which really brings down the cost of the annual fee!

With this card, you’ll pay a $99 annual fee and you’ll receive 6,000 bonus points on your account anniversary. These points are worth about $90, which means you are almost breaking even. It also shows that paying a higher annual fee is maybe even worthwhile compared to the Plus version of the card!

The Southwest Rapid Rewards Business Premier Credit Card will give you 60,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. Unlike the personal cards, there is no tier bonus tied to it making it easier to receive the welcome bonus. Learn more about the offer here.

7. American Express Gold Card (expires January 9, 2019)
Information about this card has been collected independently by Deals We Like. The issuer did not provide the details, not is it responsible for their accuracy.
The American Express Gold Card is new card within the American Express portfolio and if you apply by January 9, 2019 you can receive the card in the limited time “Rose Gold” color. On top of that, this offer will give you 50,000 points plus 20% back as a statement credit at U.S. restaurants (up to $100 back) within the first 3 months of Card Membership. NOTE: Make sure to apply through a refer-a-friend link as it will give you 50,000 points — the publicly available offer is only for 25,000 points! You can read more about this offer here.
This card does come with a $250 annual fee, but you’ll receive:
- $100 airline fee credit per year. This is good for incidental fees at your selected airline. It works the exact same as the statement credit received from the American Express Platinum card and the existing American Express Premier Rewards Gold card. The $100 airline fee credit runs on a calendar year, not a cardmember year. This means you can get the credit immediately after being approved for the card and you can get it again next January 1st before your card anniversary even hits — giving you a total of $200 credits within the first year! Just remember that you must select your airline of choice for the year and that the credit is supposed to be used for incidental charges on that particular airline. Note that purchasing gift cards does not trigger the statement credit for all airlines, but their is an entire FlyerTalk thread which discusses what will and will not work. Based on data points as of today, gift card purchases work on: Southwest, Delta ($50 maximum), and American ($100 maximum).
- $120 dining credit every single year. You can get up to a $10 statement credit per month when using your card at Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and Grubhub/Seamless Web.
- Increased category bonuses. This card is great for foodies and one of the best out there for purchases at U.S. restaurants and U.S. supermarkets:
- 4X Membership Rewards points at U.S. Restaurants
- 4X Membership Rewards points at U.S. Supermarkets (on up to $25,000 in purchases annually, then earn 1x points)
- 3X Membership Reward points on flights booked directly with airlines on amextravel.com
Sign Up Bonus Value: I personally value my Membership Reward points at around 2 cents per point, although I know many value them closer to around 1.7 cents per point. With that being said, you can always receive a much bigger value too when redeeming for business class seats with partner airlines. Assuming a 1.7 cents per point valuation, the sign up offer is worth about $850.
Overall…
One of the easiest ways to travel for free is through increased credit card offers. Right now, there are an unbelievable amount of amazing offers so it is a great opportunity to increase your point and mile balance!
