Enterprise is running a pretty good weekend only rate where you can rent a car for only $9.99 a day! They run this type of promotion a few times per year and this time around the rate is available through May 23, 2016. I personally have been able to take advantage of this rate a few times in the past and it has saved me a ton of money!
Here are some things to know:
- For participating non-airport locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico you can get a car rental for $9.99 per day (for Economy and Compact cars; other size cars are slightly higher).
- Valid for Friday through Monday rentals
- 100 miles per day is included
- They will even pick you up and drop you off (talk to them in advance to see their driving distance)
While Enterprise offers cheaper rates, it is only valid for non-airport locations. If you are flying in and would like to rent off airport, see if there is a Enterprise close by and it is sometimes cheaper to take a taxi to/from their location. Additionally, if there is a hotel near by and you are able to hop on their hotel shuttle the off-airport Enterprise location will pick you up there (they will NOT pick you up at the airport). The big disadvantage to this is that you must be picking up and dropping off the car during open hours, where as the airport location is typically open 24/7.

I use this fairly frequently, including last weekend – especially for events I adjudicate where I get paid for mileage (making it both slightly profitable and saving wear and tear on my personal vehicle). Be careful of the mileage rates for over 100 miles/day, though – in my experience they’re $0.20/mile, so the breakeven for a typical three-day weekend rate (~$81) is about 550 total miles.
sorry i did not get the math, how did you arrive at ~81 and 550 miles? happy to listen, care to explain?

Checked Hertz special of $14.99 per weekend day and when I went to the site and put in the listed codes prices came up in the $40 plus range for the same parameters your article lists. However, when I went to the link from your site, expirations listed were 2013 and 2014.
