Small Business Saturday has been one of my favorite “deal” days of the year. For the past four years, American Express has given their credit card members a statement credit for using the card at participating merchants. In the past, you ultimately could get “free” items from your desired merchant.
Unfortunately though, all good things come to an end and they are doing away with the statement credit component. Will Small Business Saturday will still continue to help marketing small businesses there will be no incentive to get customers into their stores. I personally am surprised they didn’t so some sort of “Spend $50, receive a $25” statement credit type of offer. Something to still help the small businesses with sales but not giving away free money.
I know many people keep their American Express credit cards for Small Business Saturday to help offset the annual fee, but remember, there are MANY other Amex Offers available which can save you a ton of money! You can learn more about these Amex Offers and having the annual fee paid for plus making money in this prior blog post.
