Another blog post from Mr. Deals…
Cheesy Olympic themed blog title? Check!
Ok, so earlier this week Mrs. Deals and I had a conversation about an upcoming trip we are taking out west. I mentioned that there would be a work trip coming up shortly after (to the same location) and she was floored when I said I would come home and fly back because I wanted to get Gold. That’s right folks, Gold Status on American Airlines. Yeah, I know amateur business…
So here’s what Gold would mean to Mr. Deals. First and foremost, I would say it’s like winning a competition against Mrs. Deals. Yes, I know she’s still Platinum and has me beat, but I feel like I just won something because I made it to a new status and she didn’t. It also means Mrs. Deals won’t make fun of me as much for not having any status. I at least get to enjoy the perks of some bonus points and we all know how much Mrs. Deals likes bonus points. Oh and it for sure means I get a big high five when it happens.
While Michael Phelps may have 18 golds and says he’s retiring, I bet he doesn’t have Gold Status on American. He probably flys private, but that’s not the point. I only need one Gold and I’m just over 4,000 miles away. Mrs. Deals, get the podium ready!
Go team USA (and Mr. Deals)!

I think Team USA flies UA.
Hey now, don’t sell yourself short! I believe only one member of your household holds status with Amtrak. You can always hold that over Mrs. Deals’ head.
@Fosij,
all but the basketball team. They fly the NBA chartered DL a319
@phraktur – how could i forget?!? I love my Amtrak status!
I don’t know where else to post this. A few months ago you posted information about a USTA promotion offering different deals (in limited quantity) every day for about a week. Based on the information you provided, I managed to buy two Fairmont certificates for less than 1/2 price (because of an additional Amex discount). Last week my spouse and I celebrated our 40th anniversary with two nights at the Plaza Hotel in NY, including 2 room service breakfasts, for about $810. It was incredible and we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thanks, Mr and Mrs Deals.
@dabbler45 – So glad you enjoyed! Happy 40th anniversary!
