UPDATE: This offer has expired.
The annual Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card American Express offer of 30,000 points is back! Typically this offer is at a steady 25,000 bonus points but once or twice a year they bump up that bonus and give new applicants an extra 5,000 points. The minimum spend to earn this bonus is actually very favorable as well – you will earn 10,000 points after your first purchase on the card and then an additional 20,000 points after you spend $5,000 in the first 6 months. There is both a personal and business version of this card, both with the same offer (and yes, you can get both cards for a total of 60,000 points!).
I personally got this card two years ago during the same 30k offer and use it for most of my every day spend (that is unless I am trying to meet minimum spend on another new credit card!). Every day spend are those categories where there rarely a bonus regardless on the card you use (bonus categories typically include travel, groceries, gas, etc.). I find SPG points extremely valuable since you get 1 point for every dollar spent and the number of points needed to redeem is much lower than Marriott and Hilton (Marriott you get 1 point per $1 for your everyday spend with the card and Hilton it really depends on the card you have, at best you 3 points per $ for your everyday spend). Starwood has some great category 4 and 5 properties out there where you need 10K and 12K respectively to get a free night. In Asia there are also some gem category 1 and 2 hotels! I personally had a field day redeeming hardly any points in Thailand for free nights! It then jumps to 20K for category 6 hotels (which can still be a great value internationally) and then an unreasonable amount for their category 7 hotels (their highest category). You also receive your 5th night free when redeeming at category 3-7 hotels. A huge benefit of SPG is that you can redeem a combination of cash and points at many hotels for a much better value. Click here to view the redemption options.
Additionally, if you prefer miles you can transfer to many airlines for a 1:1 ratio and get a 5K bonus for every 20K increments transferred over. This can be a great value and makes the Starwood card more valuable on your everyday spend then any other airline card. This will give you much more flexibility and a 25% increase in miles if you decide to redeem your points for flights. In this past there have also been a few bonuses for transferring points to miles, although these have been sparse.
Although Starwood properties are not as common as Marriott and Hilton, they have some of the top properties in the world. The Starwood brand includes: W Hotels, Westin, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Le Meridien, Sheraton, Aloft, element, and Four Points by Sheraton.
Offer includes:
- 10,000 SPG points after your first purchase using the card
- 20,000 SPG points after you spend $5,000 in the first 6 months on the card
- No annual fee for the first year – $65/year thereafter
Starwood Credit Card Benefits:
- One (1) SPG points for every $1 spent on every day purchases
- One (1) additional SPG points for every $1 spent at participating Starwood properties — a total of four (4) points will be earned on every Starwood stay when using your Starwood American Express credit card
- Get your 3rd night free when you stay 2 consecutive nights at participating Sheraton hotels and resorts worldwide
- Receive 5 nights and 2 stay credits toward SPG elite status each year (if you have both the business and personal card that will equal 10 nights and 4 stays towards status yearly)
- Gold status if you spend at least $30,000 per year on your card
I also love that this is an American Express card as I’ve been able to take advantage of the various Amex money making promotions! On this card alone the $65 annual fee has actually earned me about $500!

I’ve tried both links but got messages that the offer is no longer available 🙁
@Linda – I am able to see both offers, however, I did have to go into private browsing to see the personal offer. I believe this is because I already have the personal SPG Amex card?
Is anyone else having issues?
yes… also having issues on both
Link to only a 10k offer
I am not seeing the 30k bonus points, I only see 10k and no mentioning of 20k points
Do you know why?
dealswelike – the issue isn’t the landing page. It’s when you click “apply now”. your sent to an error screen saying the offer is no longer available click here.
when you click there, you’re sent back to the same landing page, which goes to the same error page. Endless loop.
@Steve – I see what you mean… hmmm… I am looking into this. Hopefully it will be fixed. Will let you all know.
Any thoughts about asking for a match? I got the SPG Business card about 2 months ago for the regular 25k sign up bonus.
@shawn – I would absolutely send them a secure message and inquire. And do not give up either. Let me know how it goes.

In the personal card, it doesn’t say 30k bonus points, is it safe to apply when the bonus is not mentioned on the landing page
@Ucanflyfree2 – I see the 30k offer mentioned, but once you click apply it is saying its not working.
@ucanflyfree2 – make sure AMEX doesn’t think you’re still logged in (you’ll see your current AMEX cards on the top right of the card advertisement images).
or clear your cookies,
or do in private browsing
@dealswelike – I read somewhere that the application was going live at noon, so perhaps we’ll get the error for a little longer.
Can anybody clarify the best way of applying for BOTH cards ?
I just applied for the Personal one and got approved online.
For the business one, I believe I just enter my full name as the business name, but what about revenue – would I just enter the same amount as the annual salary I entered for the personal card app ?
@Mike C – That is correct, you have an ebay business, right?! For the revenue put something reasonable. If you need to call for approval they’ll ask you about your expenses, profit, revenue, etc.
Hi,
It appears to be live now. I checked earlier and had the same problem as everyone else.
I just tried again, and it went to the application page correctly.
John
Thank you John – endless error loop no longer exists!
Applied and pending. Time to call reconsideration line.
Personal was approved, but business card is pending – called Amex on the requested # and they told me that there needs to be 4 days minimum between the 2 applications.
Asked me to call back in 4 days to consider business card.
Approved before I call. Sweet!
last year i applied for my 2nd amex starwood cc i only got the 10k bonus not the extra 25k they said i already it on my 1st card.my Q is.. i got today my renewal card on the mail and of course they charging the annual fee so i will cancel BUT can i transfer or rather combine both available balance first or not ???
@mr g – a few questions for you:
1. How much time in between applications was it for the 1st and 2nd amex starwood cc?
2. What did they say the annual fee is going up to?
3. When you say both available balances, do you mean the points earned on each card or the unpaid balance carried over each month?
has anyone had luck with referring friends and the friends getting the 30k offer? Via the SPG site, I tried to refer someone, but they were only getting offered the 25k bonus…
hi 1.the 1st card i got 2 years ago and got 25k the 2nd i got last year during promotion and only got the 10k not the additional 15k coz they said i already got the extra 15k the year before .
2.the annual fee is i believe $65 each card after 1 year
3.in 1 card i got a 18k limit and the 2nd 12k limit so can i ask them to move 11kout of 12k to the 18k card so that leaves me in 1 card only 1k limit and than i will cancel that card
4. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO TO US
Really would like the SPG BIZ card but I already have the following Experian Inquiry: All PERSONAL cards within last year-
Chase 7/14/12
B of A 7/12/12
Amex Hilton – 6/15/12
Chase 5/13/12
Chase 11/13/11
Should I wait or do you think I have a good chance of approval? Credit score of 779 on Experia Or would AMEX check Tranunion if i freeze Experian?
@sil – Since a business card I definitely think you are fine. For business cards they will still require Experian if that is what they pull. I tried this last time and it was a mess.
[…] Perks of the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card (and limited time 30,000 point bonus) […]
i am closing my SPG card tomorrow. The correct points never show up on the statement. I never got the bonus miles. I have called Amex multiple times and opened miltiple cases. The international charges are a killer. I would recommend the chase United cards.
Mark D – if you’re ditching the SPG cards, you should instead go for the Chase Sapphire Preferred over the United MileagePlus Explorer card. No foreign transaction fees, and you earn 2.14 UR points/dollar on travel & dining expenses (UR points can be transferred 1:1 into UA, Southwest, Hyatt, Marriott, InterContinental, etc.). That is better than what the MileagePlus Explorer card offers, and the annual fee is only $35 more than the SPG card.

I signed up for the spg 25k offer in the end of 2012 and have met the spending requirements, but Amex is say I didn’t sign up for the 25k offer. They are requiring me to give them the offer code in order to get the points and I cannot find the code anywhere. Anyone know how to find it?
