Delta just introduced a new credit card – the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card. This is the only Delta credit card that comes with no annual fee (See Rates & Fees). Although the welcome offer isn’t nearly as high as some of the other cards, if you are looking for a no annual fee product that will increase your Delta balance this could be a great card to add to your wallet.

With this card you’ll also earn 2 miles per dollar at US restaurants, 2 miles per dollar spent on purchases made directly with Delta, and 1 mile on every eligible dollar spent on purchases. Unlike the other Delta co-branded credit cards, you will not receive free checked bags or priority boarding. So there are definitely little perks that come along with this card, thus having no annual fee.

Remember, there are many American Express Membership Reward earning credit cards that will also earn you bonus miles when eating out and on travel and those points many times (depending on the card) can be transferred to Delta miles. Or you can always go for a card that gives 2% cash back and use the cash back received towards travel. Unfortunately, Delta miles have been devalued throughout the years so many times they are only worth a cent per mile. Although you can definitely find a diamond in the rough when redeeming your Delta miles.

Taking Advantage of Amex Offers

I LOVE no annual fee American Express credit cards as they allow me to “make” money at merchants I’d be shopping at anyways. All American Express cards are eligible for Amex Offers, but having one that comes with no annual fee already allows you to be ahead. With Amex Offers you’ll receive statement credits at many popular merchants, whether they are at clothing stores, big box retailers, travel companies, etc.  I take advantage of these offers quite often and earn a minimum of $200 a year per American Express card I have. There are some cards I earn maybe even 5 times that. Some cards are eligible for more offers then others and sometimes I do not take advantage of the offer on every single card. If you are big into Amex Offers, this is definitely another card to add to your portfolio!

Overall…

This is a great card for those who have already reached their once in a lifetime bonus maximum with the other Delta co-branded cards and are looking to continue to increase their Delta balance. The bonus miles of 10,000 points is probably worth $125. So definitely not a card to apply for if you are trying to limit your card applications and stay under the “5/24” rule with Chase. A really really good reason to apply for this card though is because it is eligible for those Amex Offers! Earning statement credits on a no annual fee card is my favorite!
