Just yesterday I wrote about the American Airlines & Hyatt partnership where you can earn bonus points and miles as well as reciprocal status. At that time, most members could only register for the Hyatt status match. On the American Airline status match front, however, they were sending out targeted offers to allow only some frequent fliers the opportunity. Unfortunately, it was few and far between.
Although, now it looks like the status match offer is available to all members. Or, they are starting to send out another waive of targeted offers. Neither my husband or I were originally targeted, but when we sign onto our American Airlines Advantage account today, an offer appears in both of our accounts.
My offer. I have Hyatt Globalist status and American Airlines Gold status…
My husbands offer. He has Hyatt Globalist status and no American Airline status…
We will both have the opportunity to receive three months of complimentary American Airlines Platinum status after registering. We must register by Sept. 30, 2019 and then the three months will start. Neither of us have any upcoming American Airline flights, so we will be strategic on the best timing to register.
Within that same three month timeframe we then can earn Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum status with a status challenge. Since I already have lifetime Gold status, my offer starts at Platinum. But the requirements between are two accounts are exactly the same. Unfortunately, similar to earning status the hard way, you also have to earn Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs). This means finding cheap fares will not help even though it might earn you the Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and Elite Qualifying Segments (EQSs). For those that travel for work on the companies dime, this might be easier to earn. Or, if you know of some expensive upcoming flights you might find paying for them vs. using your AAdvantage miles is worth it for the status.
American Airline Status Match Benefits
The benefits you receive depend on the status level, but one of my favorite is the upgrade opportunities. If you receive Platinum status off the bat, you’ll automatically receive upgrades on flights of 500 miles or less. On longer flights, you have the opportunity to use one of your 500-mile upgrade stickers.
Overall…
This is a great opportunity to receive automatic status for a three month time period and potentially keep it even longer!

Are there any airlines that might match this promotional status? Delta, for example, says they won’t match it unless it was earned the hard way; would they actually check this though?
