American Airlines has just added a new enhancement to their reservations system which allows customer to put a fare on hold for 7 days. The cost for this is pretty reasonable at $5/passenger (in my opinion) which allows you to lock in your fare and sit on it for the week. The $5, though, is not refundable, and will definitely be a money maker for AA (it will not be deducted from your fare price if you in fact purchase the ticket nor will it be refunded if you decide to not purchase the ticket). This is still in addition to the 24 hour hold (for free) American allows for all tickets. To put a ticket on hold for 7 days, you will need to first select the “Hold” button where you will then have the option of the 7 day hold. Also, a key thing to note is that the 7 day fare hold option is only available during your initial booking. You cannot put a fare on the free 24 hour hold and then decide to pay the $5 for the fare hold.
