Update: This offer has expired.
Recently, the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® increased their welcome offer to the best publicly available offer we’ve ever seen — 70,000 miles, which is equivalent to $700 towards free travel! The publicly available offer typically ranges between 40,000-60,000 miles, so this is definitely a card worth considering, especially since the annual fee is waived for the first year! With this card, you’ll earn 2x miles on every single purchase, plus when you go to redeem your miles, you’ll receive a 5% rebate back on your points. Ultimately this means you are earning 2.11% back on all purchases.

Redeeming Your Miles
To redeem the miles earned from the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®, all you do is make your travel related purchase on the card (as if you normally would with any credit card), and once the charge hits your card you “Pay Yourself Back For Travel”. When you go to redeem the miles you are redeeming at a fixed 1 mile = 1 cent. So let’s say you purchase a $150 flight, you’ll go ahead and redeem 15,000 miles to essentially erase this charge from your statement. You just have to make sure to redeem your miles within 120 days from when the purchase hit your credit card. With this type of redemption, you do not need to worry about award availability or blackout dates for flights our hotels. Just book the best possible rate you find and you are good to go with using your miles!
One of the really nice benefits of this card is that you receive a 5% rebate when redeeming your points. The rebate will post to your account within just a few weeks which means you can go ahead and use them again pretty quickly. With that $150 flight example and using 15,000 miles, you’d end up with 750 miles back into your account!
The one restriction for using your miles is that you must redeem for at least a $100 purchase. So let’s say you book a $59 flight, unfortunately, you will not be able to use your miles solely on that flight purchase. On the flight side though, you can redeem your points for only a portion of the travel expense. Let’s say you book a cruise that will cost you $1,000, but only have 80,000 miles in your account. You can redeem your miles to cover $800 of the cruise cost and then you’ll just be paying just $200 out of pocket. And you’ll still receive the 5% rebate on those 80,000 points redeemed!
Travel Expenses to Use Your Points
You can use your points on most travel related purchases, including: airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises, trains, taxis, uber/lyft, etc. You also do not need to purchase directly from the hotel or airline (although there are sometimes benefits of doing this), and can use your miles for third party hotel sites such as hotels.com, expedia.com, etc. or even travel agencies and tour groups. These miles are great to earn for extra travel expenses where you typically cannot use your hotel points or airline miles, or when a hotel room or flight is so inexpensive that it is not worth using your specific hotel/airline points/miles.
Overall…
Having a flexible point and miles card, such as the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® is definitely recommended and this definitely one of the better offers on the table right now. Once you put the $5,000 minimum spend on the card, you’ll earn 2x points on those purchases giving you an extra 10,000 miles in addition to the 70,000 bonus miles for a total of 80,000 miles — worth a fixed $800 towards any travel purchase! Then also do not forget to take into consideration the 5% rebate you’ll receive when you go to redeem these points!
