If you read many points and miles blogs, there is a good chance you’ve already read about this promotion of the year where you literally do not need to leave your couch to take advantage. Ultimately, you can spend about $300 and earn 90,000 Iberia Avios Points! Since many other blogs have already detailed the promotion, I’ll direct you to their posts, but I have also highlighted the promotion below: The Frequent Miler, Loyalty Lobby, One Mile at a Time, and Head for Points.People are finding many flights that are around $30 one-way and since you can take advantage of this promotion 10 times per account, they are booking 10 separate one-way flights. While flights are going up in price as this promotion gets more popular, definitely play around on the Iberia site to see what you can find. Some popular routes have been Palma de Mallorca-Madrid and Malaga-Madrid. It seems like short flights to Madrid can work out. Although as time goes on those flights will probably creep up to the $40-$50 price point – still promotion worthy though.
Promotion Details:
- Earn 9,000 Iberia Avios points after every flight you book with Iberia (one-way flights count!)
- Points will be deposited to your account within 10 days after you book the flight (NOT after you actually flight, so you’ll still receive the points for no shows!)
- You can take advantage of this promotion 10 times per account, so a total of 90,000 points can be earned
- You must redeem the points by December 1, 2018 (although you can fly after this date)
Using Iberia Points
With this promotion, you must use your points with Iberia directly and you cannot transfer them to British Airways Avios. Although, you can still use the points for partner flights, such as American Airline domestic flights. Iberia has a distance based award chart so the longer the flight, the more points it will require. You’ll also be charged more for flights that include a stopover as you’ll be charged the distance per segment. Iberia’s website is by no means the best site, but I do find it easy to check on availability. Remember, Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer to Iberia Avios points so if you are in need for a few extra points, you can always top off your points from your Ultimate Reward account.
As of right now, I am not sure if I am going to take advantage of the promotion. I should have booked my flights yesterday when they were less then $20 per flight, but I was skeptical as to whether or not they were going to honor this promotion, but it seems like they 100% are! The problem with being out of Boston is that there are not many non-stop flights and once you have to book with a stopover the number of points you need to use gets very expensive. While I ultimately do think this promotion is worth it, I just need to make sure I’ll be using the miles. I hate “purchasing” points speculatively without an actual redemption in mind.
Will you be taking advantage of this promotion?!

Best promotion of the year but you didn’t buy – no words.
@Joe – While I ended up changing my mind there are many valid reasons one might take advantage. I personally have two little kids and travel plans have already been planned out for the next year, but I’ll try to work something else in there.
No one-way awards on oneworld partner airlines… 🙁
Would have to use several domestic US flights to get to and back to a hub where Iberia flies and then home with multiple flights in Spain to see where we all want to go. While a good deal, too many transfers and points would be eaten up quickly.
Done and done.
