Biggest Rocketmiles Promotion Yet

Rocketmiles is celebrating their one year anniversary by offer one of their best promotions yet. If you make a reservation by midnight tonight (EST time) for a reservation through this calendar year (December 31, 2013) you will earn 5,000 bonus miles. While there was a double miles promo a month or so ago which could have been more lucrative for some, this is great as it is a flat 5,000 bonus points even for the inexpensive stays where you typically get 1,000-2,000k bonus miles. The 5,000 points will be on top of the normal point you’d earn anyways. And with this promotion you can select which loyalty program you want the points credited to (within the participating programs).

Rocketmiles is a third-party hotel reservation site were you earn airline miles for your stay. While they do not have too many hotels on their site, if you are able to book through them, you can earn thousands of airline miles. The one caveat is that since you are booking your hotel stay through a third-party site typically you will not earn hotel points (although sometimes it slips through the cracks and you will earn the points).

Participating airlines include: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, Ethiad, AirFrance/KLM, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, United, US Airways, and Virgin America.

Hotel rates are the same as the best available rate if you were to book directly with the hotel. However, this doesn’t account for other discounts – AAA, Corporate Rates, Specials, etc. So ALWAYS ensure that you are getting the best rate possible. And also calculate out what you’d prefer – the airline miles or the hotel points. Rocketmiles states that you’ll earn stays/nights towards status with the hotel (assuming they have a loyalty program), but since this is a third-party site, there is no guarantee. You’d have to call the hotel and ask.

5,000 point promotion

As I mentioned above, TODAY ONLY you will 5,000 miles on all NEW hotel reservations booked for the month of November and December.

For example, I searched a random date in November and saw that at the Hyatt 48 Lex I can earn 4,000 miles for the stay (one-night stay), plus the 5,000 bonus miles for a total of 9,000 miles. I compared the rate to the Hyatt website and did see that it was the same as the best available rate, however, the AAA rate is about $40 cheaper. , You need to calculate what you’d prefer, a cheaper rate (with the hotel points) or the miles for $40 more. In this scenario I’d happily “purchase” 9,000 points for $40. With the non-chain hotels you’ll probably get the same exact rate when booking through Rocketmiles.

You can sign up for Rocketmiles here and earn 1,000 miles as a signup bonus after completing your first reservation. This is my referral link, but feel free to paste yours in the comments section. I am not 100% sure though if you book through the 2x miles October promo if you’ll receive the bonus 1,000 miles as well.

Earning this number of airlines miles for a reservation is amazing, so I highly suggest looking into it for your next hotel booking. Just be sure you are getting the best (or equivalent rate) and calculate out if the miles is better than the hotel points you might be missing out on.

Anyone have any luck getting a great rate with a lot of miles tacked on?!

It’s a nice promo if you’re on the company dime. Since I’m ‘the company’, I don’t like overpaying. Check pricing before you book. Of course, YMMV.

Needed to book a 1-night stay in Mexico City anyway, so booked the InterContinental, which gives 7k miles including 5k bonus (to my Alaska account). It’s about 22 bucks more than the AAA rate but I think it is a pretty good deal, and I get to use my newly matched IHG Platinum too. Also that the Rocketmiles rate is refundable whereas the AAA rate is not.

It’s a good promotion but the hotels ARE expensive that appear in the search results. I can’t imagine paying $300 for a hotel in Mexico City. Anyone finding sub $50 hotels anywhere?

Looks like they pulled the promo early. It was showing earlier today but not anymore.
