Yesterday I posted that Southwest Airlines has extended their schedule to November 1, 2014. The great thing about this is Southwest service to both Cabo and Cancun start August 10, so you can no book to these two Mexican destinations!
I checked out the Southwest route map and currently there are non stop flights from these new destinations:
- Cabo flies direct to Orange County/Santa Ana, Denver, and Austin
- Cancun flies direct to San Antonio, Austin, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Baltimore
You can also fly to these destinations from other parts of the country, but you will just have to have a layover. Keep in mind though that not all destinations will actually provide you with a valid flight. For example, no East Coast destinations provide a valid route to Cabo.
This now means you can use your Southwest Airlines companion ticket on these routes. While the companion ticket is already extremely valuable, this makes it even more worthwhile in my opinion! You can read more about the Southwest Airlines companion pass here and the multiple ways to earn the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass.

Looks like trying to book flights to Cancun on SWA’s website transfers you to FL’s website (at least ATL-CUN did). I would think this means companion pass, free baggage, etc. all won’t work. Is that right?
@KL – Some destinations are working while others are not. Also, it depends on when you are trying to book. Some start later in the Fall, while some destinations are being discontinued.
I don’t see Cancun or Cabo as an available city at all from the search for fights menus. Where are you seeing these cities? http://www.southwest.com/html/air/intl/?int=GNAVINTTRVL doesn’t bring them up
@Shannon – When I make a reservation I can select either of these two cities.
Do you know whether flights to Cabo from other cities (such as Chicago MDW) will eventually become available?
