This is a quick reminder to let you know that IHG will be changing the points required for some of their hotels tomorrow. That means for any hotels increasing in points, you will want to book those reservations TODAY. Reservations booked today will be locked into todays price regardless of when the reservation is for. However, if you need to change the reservation you most likely won’t be able to keep the same point pricing, so make sure to make any speculative reservations you might know of. Also, for a reservation with multiple nights, you are better off many one night reservations just in case you need to cancel any of the nights, if you aren’t 100% sure of your plans. I wrote about more of these big IHG changes in this blog post here.

Which Hotels are Changing?

Approximately 400 hotels are changing the the number of points required. About half of them are going up by 5,000 or 10,000 points and about the same amount are going down 5,000 or 10,000 points. So while it is a pretty even mix, overall it is the better and more desirable hotels that will require more points.

The real negative change here is that up until today, the highest number of points required to redeem a free night was 50,000 points. Starting tomorrow, that number will increase to 60,000 points. Here are the 18 hotels that will now be surpassing that 50,000 point mark and require either 55,000 or 60,000 points:

  • InterContinental Boston – 55,000 points/night
  • InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto – 55,000 points/night
  • InterContinental De La Villa Rome – 55,000 points/night
  • InterContinental Sydney – 55,000 points/night
  • InterContinental The Williard Washington DC – 55,000 points/night
  • InterContinental La Moana Bora Bora – 60,000 points/night
  • InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso Spa – 60,000 points/night
  • InterContinental Carlton Cannes – 60,000 points/night
  • InterContinental Hong Kong – 60,000 points/night
  • InterContinental London Park Lane – 60,000 points/night
  • InterContinental The Clement Monterey – 60,000 points/night
  • InterContinental New York Times Square – 60,000 points/night

You saved me 40K points! I hadn’t realized that the Holiday Inn on Hawaii Island was going up from 20K to 30K points/night.
