The InterContinental Hotels Group credit card is one of my favorite cards. It is one of the cards where the annual fee more than pays for itself. With this card you earn a free night that can be used at ANY InterContinental Hotels Group hotel after every anniversary year. The annual fee is $49/year, but the cost of a free night hotel can easily be worth $250+. You can learn more about the card and the benefits in this prior blog post.
Up until recently, there was a non-publicized 80,000 point offer for this card. While this was for the Chase Visa card, it looks like Chase is moving this card over to a Mastercard and the 80,000 point bonus for the Visa is no longer available. However, there looks like there might be an opportunity to still get the 80,000 point bonus through the new Mastercard version of the card. The link does not take you to a landing page specifying the offer, but folks have reported a Chase representative confirming the 80,000 point offer upon meeting the minimum spend requirements. I actually just applied for this card for my Dad last night, so I will be able to report with my success soon enough. If you are interested in this offer, I suggest reading through this FlyerTalk thread to see the latest success reports – it also includes the sign up link.
Additionally, those that currently have the Visa version of this card should have recently received an email explaining that their Visa will be replaced with a IHG Rewards Club Select World Mastercard. This new card should come in the mail by May 17th. Fortunately, nothing else is changing, you will still receive the exact same points for dollar spent and annual free night. Here is what the notice states:

I just got a targeted email for the Chase IHG MC for 80,000 points. If I hit the apply button is takes me to a landing page without the obvious 80000 point offer. Since I have a lot of personal Chase cards – and just got the Hyatt one two weeks ago – I doubt I will apply but wonder if I can put my husband’s name on the application instead and still get the 80000 points.
There was no mention of the free night annually in the email announcing the switch to MasterCard. Can you confirm that new card holders and current ones will still get the annual free night? Thanks!
I just tried the flyertalk link last week for the 80K for the Visa. After I got the card I emailed Chase and they confirmed I was set up for 80K with the $1000 spend. I did receive a Visa! Guess they will be replacing that with a Mastercard.
Wife just received an e-mail for a Mastercard 80K bonus & free night today.
The new offer is live: EARN 60,000 BONUS POINTS AFTER YOU SPEND $1,000 IN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF ACCOUNT OPENING, AND ENJOY A FREE NIGHT EVERY YEAR
I was hoping they wouldn’t just change my card to a Mastercard and let me apply for it again since it is a “new product.” I guess that’s not going to happen though…
My advice to anyone with this card already. Cancel it now, before they ship you the mastercard. This way you can then apply for the mastercard as it will be a new product and get the bonus all over again.
@SJCRussell
I don’t necessarily think that’s good advice. Technically even if I receive the MC version in the mail I still haven’t gotten the bonus on that version (see also Freedom Visa/MC versions). So I think the best way is to first get your anniversary night certificate, and THEN cancel the card and reapply to get the 80k bonus.
@tim, if you apply for the MC , wait a year for the annual free night then cancel, you won’t be able to get the bonus again if you reapply for the EXACT same MC version.
@sil
Like SJCRussell, I’m assuming you are already a cardholder of the original Priority Club Visa. If that’s the case and you haven’t received your anniversary certificate yet, I would not, as SJCRussell suggests, to “Cancel it now” because of what I stated above. I’m not assuming that you apply for the MC and then cancel. My point is exactly your point, which is that even if you cancel your MC and reapply for the card, you technically have never received bonus points for the MC version. There’s no rush to do it this second.
@Tim, you are 100% correct, before getting into this game, I had a Chase CC, then got into this game, and switched it to a Freedom Card (visa) and then I applied for a MC version of the Freedom Card, got the 20K bonus for my 1K spend…
I recently applyed for the IHG credit card thru the flyertalk link. While there was no landing page. A Chase customer service person over the phone confirmed the bonus was 80,000 points. After making the required spend I did recieve the 80,000 points. I just used them along with 20,000 transfered ultimate reward points and $120.00 in cash for 3 night stay in the Intercontinental hotel in Moorea, Tahiti (very nice hotel.)
