Back in July, IHG came out with an 80,000 point offer for the IHG credit card. This is their highest publicly available offer and a card I highly suggest everything having in their wallet! Just days later, a 100,000 point offer surfaced, although highly targeted. The great thing about Chase cards is that they are typically very willing to match you to a higher offer (as long as you’ve applied within the past 90 days). Many folks were able to apply through the 80,000 point offer, get approved, and then send a secure message to Chase requesting to be matched to the 100,000 point offer (even though they were not targeted). Chase was more then happy to match these folks after meeting the slightly higher minimum spend requirement. You can learn about all hotel credit cards here.
Fast forward a month and it seems like Chase is no longer matching for the higher offer. Yesterday, I wrote a post titled “Top 7 Reasons Why You Should Have the IHG Credit Card“. I had a bunch of readers comment or email me that that the honeymoon period of the match is over. Bummer since 100,000 points for the IHG card is the best we’ve ever seen! I am actually not sure if the 100k offer is still available for those even targeted – I was not targeted so I am not able to see.
With that being said, I still really do recommend this offer even at 80,000 points. The single best perk of this card is that you receive a free night annually at ANY IHG property (think InterContinental Paris, InterContinental Cancun, Holiday Inn Aruba, InterContinental Los Angeles, InterContinental Bora Bora, InterContinental New York, InterContinental San Francisco, etc.). No restrictions – there just has to be a room on points available. That means you are paying a $49 annual fee to receive a free night certificate at every single year on a room that could easily cost $300+ a night. You can learn more about the free night certificate here.

I just got my matched recently 100k in my account last week
I applied for the card through the IHG program via phone and was immediately offered the 100k. I didn’t even have to ask, so if you want the bonus it’s worth signing up for a free IHG account and applying that way.
I just phoned to sign up for the Rewards Card and asked to apply for the credit card, as you suggested and they automatically gave me the 100k offer as well! Thank you for that info!
Targeted offer still shows up for me.
@CM – Good to know, thanks!
I asked to be matched about a month ago and they said to get back with them when spending was complete.
I responded to this message a couple days ago when I was sure the spending was complete at the higher amount and they said not a problem.
I usually save the confirmation on my account and respond to that and also a screenshot of the offer – even though it was not needed here and I was not targeted!
I convinced my girlfriend to get the card when the 100k offer was out. She wasn’t targeted but I told her it was ok, Chase always matches. She signed up at 60k, spent almost $2k on the card in the first month, and is now being told they won’t match to the old 100k, or even the publicly available 80k that’s on their website right now. They gave her some nonsense about being fair to their customers and treating them all the same or something.
This was her first card (I know I know- we don’t need airline miles though because we fly for free anyway and we’re fine staying in suburb HIXs if it means we get to travel more often) but now she’s ready to be done with miles and points. Very disappointed today 🙁
@Joe – There was a publicly available offer for 80,000 points at the time (instead of the 60,000 point offer). Sorry they wouldn’t match you 🙁 But I will say the IHG card is great for ongoing benefits, such as the free night award on a yearly basis. That is an amazing perk and worth having the card regardless of the sign up offer.
