Over the past few months I’ve written about the new Chase Offer where you receive a statement credit if you spend a certain amount at a participating stores. Currently, these offers only work if you have the Chase Marriott or Chase Slate credit cards (those are registration links to register your card for the offers). There are three types of offers that we’ve seen:
- A percentage cash back up to a certain dollar amount
- A percentage cash back up to a certain dollar amount after you spend a certain amount
- A fixed dollar amount cash back after you spend a certain amount
I’ve receive a few reports from readers having some issues receiving the statement credit for these offers. It seems like Chase is not being so customer friendly when issuing these statement credits. While offer type #1 will probably never cause you an issue receiving the statement credit, offers types #2 and #3 might.
For offer types #2 and #3, it requires you to spend a certain amount with the participating merchant to receive the statement credit. The offers require you to meet the minimum spend in a single transaction, which in theory should trigger the statement credit. The problem is when you make a purchase online, some stores do not always post the charge in the same transaction if you are purchasing multiple items. Many times they wait until the order ships to charge your credit card and at times orders placed in the same transaction will ship at different times – depending on in-stock availability. If this happens, then you might see separate charges on your statement credit thus not triggering the statement credit. From reports I’ve read, contacting Chase customer service will not rectify the situation. They are simply saying “sorry” or “too bad” and are not able to/willing to manually put the statement credit through.
Just keep this in mind when you are taking advantage of your next Chase Offer. In-store purchases should not have an issue at all and neither should online purchases when you are just buying one item. One other note is that there are mixed reports when purchasing a gift card, so there is probably a 50/50 chance you will not receive a statement credit with a gift card purchase. They are explicitly excluded from almost all offers and I guess the level of detail they receive from the merchant is good enough to not trigger the statement credit.
While this does happen at times with Amex Offers, Amex customer service has been extremely good with manually putting through a statement credit, if needed. However, this is a very new area for Chase so hopefully they will be able to help the customer out more in the future.

I made an in store purchase and still did not get the statement credit. When I contacted Chase it took longer than their stated time to hear back from them. They said I would get the credit but it still hasn’t shown up on my statement.
I had an issue with category #3 even though it was from a single purchase. I sent a message on the Chase Offers site a few days ago but no reply so far. :/
I gave up a few weeks ago. (No reply to a message)
I’m done.
