With all of the other hotel chains changing, we were sure to see Club Carlson putting a revamp on their hotel categories. Now, the good news is that the changes are positive as a whole. The award redemption chart is staying the same, which I think is fare, but some hotels are going up or down in categories. Overall, 97 hotels are moving up in categories, with 151 hotel moving down. Obviously, depending on the hotel you are looking to stay at will depend on whether or not you see this as a positive change, but overall, I did not see anything so drastic. `
You have until Tuesday, April 30, 2013 to book at the current hotel rate. Keep this in mind and book by then if there is a hotel you are considering that is moving up in category. Starting May 1st, the new chart will go into affect.
Here is a list of the hotels that are changing, however, Loyalty Traveler has gone through this list and highlighted the hotels going up a category in green for you to quickly see which hotels you need to pay attention to by end of day tomorrow (which I recommend taking a look at).
The number of points to redeem a free night (in a standard room) is the following:
- Category 1 = 9,000
- Category 2 = 15,000
- Category 3 = 28,000
- Category 4 = 38,000
- Category 5 = 44,000
- Category 6 = 50,000
Overall, I’ve become a big fan of the Club Carlson program, especially since their newly launched credit card gives a free night on your award redemption stay of 2 or more nights. I’ve also earned a bunch of points in their program over the past two years due to their massive promotions offering up to 50,000 points after a one night stay.
Do not forget to make your reservation for hotels changing!

The Orlando Int’l Drive 9,000 point property was easily one of the best redemption options 🙁
you meant loyalty traveler 😉
@live from a lounge – yes I did. Thanks!
Wow the Blu hotel in Rome from a 6 to a 5. It should be a 3 or 2.
Looks like an overall devalue to me. Another reason not to be loyal to this program.
Whew! I knew these changes were coming, but they are not as bad as they could have been. I can live with them.
