Although many of the hotels have already announced that they are extending status and some other benefits — such as Hilton and Hyatt — the airlines have been pretty quiet. It looks like Delta is coming out first in offering some the same customer-friendly extensions. Just this morning, they announced some great updates which should make Delta members pretty happy.

Status extension

Your current Delta Medallion Status will automatically be extended through 2021, even if you did not re-qualify. Additionally, all of your 2020 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) earned will be rolled over into 2021. That will then help you qualify easier for status next year. Those enrolled in a status match/challenge will also receive flexibility to complete the requirements.

Travel benefits extension

If you have an unused Companion Certificate or $100 Delta flight credits from one of the Delta SkyMiles American Express Credit Cards, you’ll receive more time to use it. Companion Certificates expiring between March 1 and June 30, 2020 will be extended through Dec. 31, 2020. Certificates expiring between July 1 and April 1, 2021 will receive a 6 month extension. The $100 credits will receive a 6 month extension.

SkyMiles Members with upgrade certificates or $200 travel vouchers will also receive an extension. If you have one that is currently expiring between March 1 and June 30, 2020, it will be extended through Dec. 31, 2020. Those expiring between July 1 and April 1, 2021 will receive a 6 month extension.

Those with Delta Sky Club Memberships will receive a 6 month extension. This is for expiration dates beginning with March 1, 2020 or later.

Overall

I am glad to see Delta extend these benefits for their customers. Now, if only the other major US airines would follow along.
