Through Living Social, you can purchase $20 of Uber credits for just $2 – ultimately giving you $18 free. Keep in mind though this is for NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY, unfortunately.
I’ve written about Uber before and essentially it is an “On-demand car service that allows everyone to have a private driver experience through iPhone, SMS, and web based requests.” It is less expensive than a car service, but slightly more expensive than a yellow cab. Your credit card is stored in your account so there is no exchange of money at the end of the ride. A 20% gratuity is automatically added as well. While I’ve used Uber here and there, my friends in Boston swear by it. For me in NYC, I am typically able to walk outside, put my hand out and a cab is ready for wherever I need to go. In many most cities this is not the case and an at-your-service car service is very much needed. Additionally, tip is included and no cash or credit card is needed – everything is linked to your account. The cars are also extremely new/clean, and the company will even text you with the drivers name for extra security.
So now back to the deal (and make sure to pay attention as it is two-fold):
- Via LivingSocial you can purchase a $20 Uber credit for $2. As mentioned, this is is for new Uber customers only.
- Now, for new Uber members, which you all must be to jump on the first deal, you can get a free $10 in credit just by signing up! This sign up must come from an existing member (the referrer receives a $10 credit as well after you take your first Uber trip). This will really make the deal $30 for a $2 purchase, so ultimately $28 in free credits!
To ensure you are able to get credits from a referral and the LivingSocial deal I went through this process myself with another email address and it worked.
Check out the uber website (uber.com to learn more about fares and available cities – they are now international!). The promotional value of the LivingSocial deal is available through August 9, 2013
Enjoy your Uber deal and discounted taxi/car service!
UPDATE: Many people have had issues on how to get the double credits to work. You must first sign up for Uber with the referral link. When you are signing up there is a promotion box where you leave the referral name from the referral link you use. Then, purchase the Living Social deal and you will receive a voucher number. Do not click the uber sign up link that is given, instead sign into your account that you just created and click on the “Promotions” tab. In the promotions box enter the voucher number. You will then see you have a total of $30 credits available.

I think you’re missing part of the LivingSocial link. It redirects to your blog. 🙂 Thanks for the heads up about the deal!
@Stephanie – Thanks for letting me know.
Darn, why does it have to be for new accounts only!
Note that you cant really open as many accounts as you want using N number of email addresses. Each Uber account has to be tied to a verified phone number without which the account will not allow you to call a car. Unless you have plenty of mobile numbers, you cant really open as many accounts as you want. And this number is used to call you back when you actually call a car.
My signup link should anyone care to use it: uber.com/invite/cxab7
Thanks in advance!
Would appreciate anyone using my referral link:

I was only able to get one of these at a time to work. Couldn’t make both of them to compound.
Like Jess, the sign up page only has space for one promo code at a time. I don’t see how you can get both the living social deal and the referral at the same time.
Any guidance would be appreciated!
@Tarheel Traveler – I updated the post, but essentially the first promo code is the referral link promo (do not change this). Then after signing up you use the LivingSocial voucher number as your promo code in the “Promotions” tab.
same here, only one promo code accepted…any details on how to work around this. LivingSocial t&c also state no combining of deals allowed…
Do the referral first. Then after sign in to your account, click the “promotions” tab and enter the code from living social.
thanks for the info R.W., but it’s a no go for me. Get “Promotion only available to new users” error even though I only just signed up. Too bad, good thing LivingSocial gives refunds.
Hey all – I updated the post with the specific directions on how to take advantage of adding both credits to your account, but here you go:
When you are signing up there is a promotion box where you leave the referral name from the referral link you use. Then, purchase the Living Social deal and you will receive a voucher number. Do not click the uber sign up link that is given, instead sign into your account that you just created and click on the “Promotions” tab. In the promotions box enter the voucher number. You will then see you have a total of $30 credits available.
@Colin – This should still work, I updated the post to include the specific directions.
Just followed the steps and now have the $30 in my account. Thanks for the deal…will come in handy when traveling to LA tomorrow.
Thanks! Confirmed, it works, signed up using Randy’s link.
Will appreciate if anyone signs up using by referral:

I used your link and followed your instructions! Now i need to know how to use UBER. 🙂
This worked, but there also seems to be a few other new user sign-up promos for $20 (I’d check the Google Play store for codes.). Seems like you could try for $40?
Thanks used your referral code for my wife an I. Happy to give back great blog ! Thanks for doing what you do !
Uber is fantastic! I highly recommend. If anyone would like to use my referel link I would be honored:

I’ve accidentally created two accounts trying get these promotions to work and I’m wondering if the two accounts can be merged, help!
@Hillary – I am not sure. I’d suggest contacting Uber. You can always use your credits from one account and then delete and re-install the app with the other account/
Is UBER available almost anywhere? I will be flying into Harrisburg, PA in July with my sister and will need a ride to Mechanicsburg, PA to our hotel which is about 19 miles away. Looking for the best way to get there. The hotel that we are staying at does not have a hotel shuttle that picks up from the airport. UBER would be cool or a taxi. What do you think?
@Kathy – The uber site will tell you which cities they are currently in.
Thank you!
Go to uber.com/invite/uberridesavings or type in uberridesavings in the promo box for $10 off your first ride!
