UPDATE: PROMO HAS BEEN PULLED
TODAY ONLY, Wyndham is offering a crazy promotion where if you pretty much drain your Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) account balance and donate your points to charity, you’ll receive 4x Wyndham points. For example, if you are sitting on 200,000 SPG points and donate them all to a partner charity, while you’ll end up with 0 SPG points, you’ll earn 1 million Wyndham points! This requires you to donate your points and send proof of domation between 12pm and 11:59pm EST October 11, 2016.
The Rules
- To participate, members simply need to donate their entire SPG point balance to their preferred, approved charity, and then send proof of their donation to Wyndham Rewards by sending screen shots to wyndhamrewards.fulfillment@
wyn.com.
- Two (2) screen shots are required – one showing confirmation of the point donation; and a second showing the member’s account activity page with a zero balance upon completion of the transaction. Really, you just need to have less then 500 points in your account.
- There is no cap on how many points members may donate or earn. Members can expect to receive the points and match within 10 days.
- For more information, visit the Wyndham Rewards Facebook page at facebook.com/wyndhamrewards
. Full terms and conditions are available here.
The terms also state that you cannot transfer SPG points over to Marriott to lessen the number of SPG points in your account.
Is It Worth It?
Most folks will probably not transfer their points over. While 4x points is worth more then 1x SPG point, real good Wyndham hotels are hard to fine. All Wyndham hotels require a fixed 15,000 points to redeem for a free night, which is great if you are looking to redeem at a high end hotel. Some include: Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach, The Mills House Wyndham Grand in Charleston, Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront, Wyndham Kauai Beach Villas in Hawaii, Wyndham Orlando Resort, Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa in Puerto Rico. And remember, Dolce Hotels can now be booked using Wyndham points as well. Some of these hotels include: Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, Aspen Meadows Resort in Aspen, Dolce CampoReal Lisboa in Portugal, and Dolce Sitges in Spain.
If you are looking to stay at tone of the hotels above, then this could be worth it. But now that Starwood points can be used at both SPG and Marriott hotels, there are a ton of opportunities to use your points. Let’s say you have 15,000 SPG points. This can be used for 1 free night at a middle of the range SPG hotel or a top notch Marriott Hotel & Resort (15,000 SPG points = 45,000 Marriott points). Or, if you take advantage of this current offer, those same 15,000 SPG points is worth 4 free nights at any Wyndham hotel.
So really, it is up to you on how you value your SPG and Wyndham points, and if you have anywhere to actually redeem those Wyndham points.
Status Match
If you take part in the above promo, Wyndham will also match your SPG status for the rest of 2017. SPG Gold = Wyndham Platinum. SPG Platinum = Wyndham Gold.
Status is fairly new at Wyndham hotels. With Platinum status, you’ll receive preferred room upgrades, early check in, and an annual 3,000 point bonus. Diamond status will give you the same as Platinum, but you’ll receive an annual 6,000 point point, suite upgrades, a welcome amenity, and the opportunity to gift Gold status to a friend.
