I received a great email yesterday from American Airlines where they are offering double Elite Qualifying Miles and Elite Qualifying Points between November 1 and December 31, 2012. Additionally, if you currently have elite status you will also receive 100% bonus on redeemable miles. If you do not currently have status, you will receive 100% bonus on redeemable miles over Thanksgiving time from November 16-26.
This promotion is only valid for travel on a purchased ticket marketed and operated on American Airlines, American Eagle, and American Connection flights. This means any flights marketed by a codeshare where you receive miles (i.e., Japan Airways, Cathay Pacific, etc.) do not qualify.
Bonus miles/points earned count towards earning status this year, which is good through February 2014.
- Executive Platinum = 100,000 miles or points
- Platinum = 50,000 miles or points
- Gold = 25,000 miles or points
For example, I currently have 39,000 miles towards status, so need 11,000 miles to maintain Platinum status. Because of this promotion, this means I actually only need to earn 5,500 miles between now and December 31, 2012 to maintain my current Platinum status. Originally,
I wasn’t going to go for it, as mileage runs were going to cost more than it was worth (in my opinion), but with this promotion I
might rethink this. Additionally, since I am currently Platinum I already get a 100% bonus on all miles earned, and with this additional 100% promotion, all flights I take will earn me a 300% bonus! That is a pretty amazing opportunity to earn miles while trying to earn my Platinum status. I really really need to think this one through and maybe come up with a strategy. Personally, I’d be much more excited if I were going for Executive Platinum over Platinum, but I do not think that is going to happen. With Executive Platinum you get unlimited business class upgrades domestically and 8 eVIP upgrades which can be used to upgrade you on American operated international flights.
This promotion is going to help Mr. Deals immensely as
he was already contemplating a mileage run. Luckily for him, a work trip came up so this promotion is going to secure Platinum for him without any extra effort. His next flight to California will get him Platinum status, which means he will also earn a 300% bonus on all miles earned for his roundtrip flight. This means he will earn 15,480 miles on this trip! If you are able to find a cheap flight, you can do very well!

Hubby has a few business trips coming up which means this will be his first year as platinum! We are both very excited about all the bonus miles he’ll be earning next year from this. We’re planning a big trip for my mom’s 60th birthday next yr so that will really help.
@Jialing – That is great! Congrats to your husband on platinum status!
