Between September 1 and November 18, 2016 you can receive double points on ALL Southwest flights. The one kicker, however, is that you must register for the promotion PRIOR to booking your flight. Now, if you’ve already booked your flight and the price has not increased, you can cancel your flight and re-book – just make sure to not change the flight as you will need a new reservation number. This is the one thing I hate about Southwest promotions and since they do not give you any advance notice, those that like to book flights ahead of time have a hard time taking advantage.
With this promotion you will earn the following points:
- Wanna Get Away Fares: 12 points per dollar spent (instead of 6 points)
- Anytime Fares: 20 points per dollar spent (instead of 10 points)
- Business Select Fares: 24 points per dollar spent (instead of 12 points)
If you were contemplating using points for future travel instead of paying for the flight, I’d suggest paying for it. Keep in mind though you will not have the same perks if you need to cancel the flight or if the cost of the flight goes down in price.
The terms do state that only those that received the offer are eligible, so there is a chance that this might be a targeted offer. You’ll know whether or not you are eligible when you go to register.

uh Jennifer S. You should change your link because the form will display your full name and rapid rewards number starting with 8 and ending in 2.
@askmrlee – Thanks for letting me know.
How about adding “targeted” to your header? No go for me.
Dammit, booked a flight last night!! So just cancel the flight and use the voucher to book a new flight?
Yes, that’ll work. Hopefully the price didn’t increase in a day.
@Ken – Exactly. Unless the flight hasn’t gone up in price.
Just checked, it went up $20. Is there a service that will check daily and email me if the price drops like AutoSlash does for car rentals?
Dragon Fare did until Southwest asked them to stop.
