Today only, the American Airlines shopping portal is offering a pretty amazing payout for those booking some Marriott reservations — you’ll earn 10x miles per dollar spent! The best part about this offer is that you are not booking through American Airlines directly, but instead you are spending an extra 30 seconds or so by going through the portal first and then being redirected to the Marriott website. From there you’ll book as you normally would, but in the background your reservation will be tracked and you’ll earn the AA miles on top of the Marriott points you’d normally earn! This isn’t one of those situations where you need to pick between earning miles or points, you’ll earn both!
UPDATE: Many readers report that only prepaid reservations will count.
Let’s say you are making a reservation that will cost you $400 for the stay, as an example. This will result in earning 4,000 Marriott base points (plus any bonus offers and extra points from having status) + 4,000 American Airline miles. For business travelers out there who book expensive hotel rooms, today is the day to book. As long as you aren’t required to book through your companies corporate site.
One thing to note though is if you use a promotion code, it could negate you earning the points. Personally, I’d book the cheapest rate you find and forgo the AA miles, but if there is no better rate, this is a great way to double dip!
Thanks to Running with Miles for this great deal!

It’s only for the JW Marriott San Francisco Union Square propriety, not any and all Marriott hotels.
@Bill – That is a separate promotion.
Thanks for the heads up, it’s usually only 3x. Not sure if you mentioned but it’s worth noting that points are only earned thru the portal on prepaid rates where your card is charged at time of reservation.
@Christopher – Thank you. I personally have not used the AA portal to book Marriott hotels, although I do not see that in the terms?
It’s not in the terms but I have tested it out on many occasions. If you think about it then it makes sense, if you are only reserving a room that you will pay for at check out then you are not actually making a purchase through the portal or Marriott website, you would be making a transaction at the hotel. When I discovered you could actually book rooms thru the AA portal for points I kicked myself for not realizing sooner. It’s really a not very well known hack. It’s worth pointing out that there are many other hotel chains available to book through the AA portal as well
+1 (not realizing it sooner).
Neither did I,
@Christopher – Thank you for letting me know!
Oh and Bill is wrong, he’s looking at the wrong place on the Marriott info page on the AAdvantage shopping portal. Pay attention Bill!
anyone know if rewards booking will give you any miles?
