Country Inn & Suites is currently offering a great promotion to earn a slew of Southwest Rapid Reward points with every stay. Through April 30, 2014, you will earn triple Southwest points with every single stay. Typically you earn a flat 600 points per stay, but during this promotion you will earn 1,800 points. Remember though, this is instead of earning Club Carlson points during your stay.
I personally think this is a great promotion for inexpensive one night stays. 1,800 Southwest Rapid Reward points is currently worth a fixed $30 towards a Southwest “Wanna Getaway Fare”, however, starting March 31, 2014 once the Southwest devaluation takes place, it will be worth $25.70.
To change your Club Carlson earning preference from Points to Miles, sign into your account and select the “My Profile” option. Scroll down the page and you will see the “Earning Preference” section. Select the “Miles” radio button, select Southwest Airlines from the “Airline/Other Program” drop down and enter your Southwest Rapid Rewards number. This will ensure your points get credited properly.
Note: When you change your earning preference to miles your entire current Club Carlson point balance will be converted to miles with the selected airline at a 10:1 ratio. I personally think this is a ridiculous policy, but I am assuming it has to do with some behind the scenes technology in place. This conversion is not a good value, so if you have a large point balance you probably will not want to change your earning preference. However, if you still want to take advantage of this promotion you can create a new account number and stay under that account.
Also, the terms do state that this is for new reservations only, so if you are looking to take advantage of this promo, you might want to cancel and rebook (assuming the rate has not changed).

Is this stackable with the 3 nights promo? Thank you
I do not think it is applicable. I think with Southwest deal you have to book via the southwest site and for the club carlson promo you have to book through a club carlson site.
Would love to be corrected
@Sean – You do not need to book through the Southwest website.
I believe that if you change your preference from Carlson points to SW miles, your entire balance of Carlson points converts into SW miles and you can not convert them back. In fact, it states this clearly in the terms posted. I would not want to have my Carlson points converted to SW miles so I think it best that I let this promo be. I don’t think there is any way to temporarily switch and not have all your Carlson points converted. If it were otherwise, it would really be a nice promo.
@James – Thanks for pointing that out. I totally missed that and you are absolutely right. If you have a point balance then this is not a great promotion.
Ooooh ok. Well I clicked the email link and it took me to a booking engine on the southwest site.
I read the Terms of the CC 3 night promo and did not see anything about your earning preferences needing to be points. I wish we could get this to work out double dipping, would be awesome. I think we need some guinea pigs…
@Sean – I read the terms of the 3 night promo too and couldn’t find anywhere also that you needed to earn points as your preference not miles. I’ll do some digging tomorrow.
Does the first 600 points count as CPQP or the full 1800?
@Rick – Yes, the first 600 points count towards the companion pass, the bonus points do not.
