The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American ExpressSouthwest just came out with an unbelievable offer for California residents (sorry to those in every other state!) to earn the Southwest Companion Pass. All you have to do is apply for one of the Southwest Airlines credit cards, meet the minimum spend requirement, and the Companion Pass is yours! Typically, to earn the Southwest Companion pass you have to earn 110,000 qualifying points so this is a significantly easier method!

Unfortunately though, this still is targeted to only select California folks. Southwest was sending out emails letting them know they were eligible. You also might be able to sign into your Southwest account and go to the Promotion section (or just go straight to this site) to see if you have this promotion available. Since I live on the opposite coast, I did not receive this offer.

In addition to the Companion Pass, you’ll also receive the sign up bonus points. Both the personal cards are currently offering 40,000 points, while the business card is offering 60,000 points.

There is a huge caveat to this promotion those – you will NOT be eligible if you are currently a Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Card holder or if you’ve received a sign up bonus for ANY of the 3 Southwest Rapid Reward credit cards within the past 24 months.

With this offer, you’ll receive the Companion Pass through December 31, 2018. While earning the pass for 1 year for just opening up 1 card is awesome, if you’d prefer to earn it through the end of 2019, you can still open up two cards (a business card for 60,000 points + a personal card for 40,000 points) and put an additional 10,000 on the cards in 2018 and earn the pass for all of 2018 and 2019. You can read more about this strategy here (although note that the card offers have changed since writing this prior post).

Were you targeted? Are you going to take advantage of this offer?!

This is simply incorrect: To see if you are eligible, sign into your Southwest account and go to the Promotion section (or just go straight to this site). It will show you whether or not you have any promotions available.

Did you actually do any research on this or did you make this article up? This offer is only being sent to TARGETED Southwest California customers and it does NOT appear in the Promotions section on the Southwest Airlines website and there is no link to apply for this offer, outside of the email.

Settle down Beavis, Sometimes promotional e-mails get caught in spam filter, or don’t get delivered to a current e-mail address.
Signing into your account and seeing if a (targeted) promotion is available to you is a good idea when one is known to exist.
I have had this happen.
You might try being less insulting, or go have a spa day and calm down

The part that got me was that out of all the bloggers I saw on BA going crazy on this day with the news, this was the only one that incorrectly said to check the promo section. For other SW promos like 2X miles on routes you can do this, but not this one because the link brought you to a pre-filled Chase application.

People may think that they didn’t get targeted if they go to the website and find nothing but may have received the email.

Thanks!!! I checked my e-mail and got the offer … will apply for the card now as I haven’t had it in a long time. I get so much e-mail that I would have missed this if I hadn’t specifically looked for it.
