This is an awesome partnership where you can earn SPG points for just riding Uber! You’ve probably seen your Twitter feed blow up with this announcement as you have the opportunity to earn at least one SPG point for every dollar spent with Uber.
This offer is eligible for everyone, regardless of status and if you are staying at an SPG hotel during your stay. Of course, if your Uber ride is linked with an SPG stay, you will earn even more points! Regular members will receive 2 points per dollar spent, Gold and Platinum will receive 3 points per dollar spent, and Platinum members with 75 nights or more will receive 4 points per dollar spent.
To take advantage of this promotion, you must link your SPG and Uber accounts. The email address and last name on both accounts must match! You can link accounts at spg.com/uber. The major thing to know about this offer though is that you cannot start earning SPG points until you’ve completed an SPG stay during the year. And earning points will not retroactively be awarded for Uber rides prior to your stay. The main question outstanding is if it must be a paid stay or not (or whether points or points + cash points will count). I will make sure to report back with that answer once it is known!
Overall, this is a great way to earn points by participating in a different travel activity. I am a huge Uber fan so this will be a nice way to get some bonus points throughout the year. Just keep in mind though that it is capped at $10,000 spend in Uber per year (which should not be an issue for the average user!).Â
Win free SPG points…Â Uber and SPG are hosting a kick off event in Dubai, London, Mexico City, New York, and San Francisco. This Saturday, February 28 between 2pm and 7pm (local time) you will be able to select the “SPG” vehicle option in your Uber app and potentially win 15,000 SPG points by riding with Uber. My assumption is Uber rides will be very popular during that 5 hour timeframe! This is only valid for those that have linked their two accounts. I am not sure if rides using credits will count, but I will try to get some answers and report back.
