Through August 31, Hyatt is running a promotion where you will earn triple miles on all hotel stays. Typically you earn 500 miles per stay, but with this promotion you’ll earn 1,500 miles per stay up to 15 stays. This promotion will not kick in until your 2nd stay.
With this promotion you’ll be opting for miles instead of earning Hyatt points, so it is best for those cheap one night stays since the miles earned are fixed. Regardless earning points or miles though, you’ll still receive nights/stays towards status.
Participating Airlines (you can only earn points with one participating airline and must register with the link provided below)
- Air France KLM Flying Blue
- American AAdvantage
- ANA All Nippon Mileage Club
- British Airway Executive Club
- Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
- Jet Airways JetPrivilege
- Miles & More
- United MileagePlus
Ultimately if you have 15 stays with Hyatt, you can earn a total of 21,500 miles (7,500 regular miles and then 14,000 bonus miles).
Is this worth it? At Hyatt hotel you typically earn 5 points per dollar spent and then bonus points based on your status. Let’s say your stay costs $100, you’d be earning 500 Hyatt points. In this situation I’d prefer to earn 1,500 miles over 500 Hyatt points. I do value my Hyatt points slightly more then American or United miles by not 3 times more. I’d say the break even point is at a $200 stay. This would mean 1,000 Hyatt points vs. 1,500 airline miles. However, if you have status, you can earn up to a 30% bonus, you’ll need to take that into consideration as well.
The best way to take advantage of this promotion is to credit all your stays to points and you can then call up Hyatt and ask them to switch individual stays to earning miles instead of miles.
I am hoping that they will come out with a bonus point earning promotion for the summer, but it doesn’t look like this. The other major hotel chains seem to have some better promotions for the summer.
