I received an email from Hyatt yesterday letting me know that they are adding some new benefits to Diamond status. Typically when these “enhancements” are added to a program, something is taken away as well, but that is not the case in this scenario. They really are adding some nice benefits to those who obtain the highest status. To earn Diamond status you must complete 25 stays or 50 nights during the calendar year. Your Diamond status will be active the year you earn the status plus the entire additional calendar year, and then to the end of February of the following year. For example, if you were to earn Hyatt Diamond status March of 2015, you would keep your status until February 28, 2017!

So here are the added benefits:

  • Guest of Honor – This benefit starts March 1 and ultimately allows members to book award stays for friends and family through their account and allow those guests to take on the Diamond status benefits during this stay. Technically, up until this point, you would only receive Diamond status if the Diamond member was present at the hotel as well. This benefit is only valid for stays using points, not paid stays or cash + points stays. This is great since you can transfer points from one account to another (once every 30 days). This means that if you do not have Diamond status, but a friend does, you can transfer the required points needed for an award stay and book the stay through your friends account.
  • United Club Passes – Also starting March 1, those with Diamond status will receive two United Club airline passes . You will receive these on an annual basis. This will allow you to use the United Club at many airports two times for free during the calendar year. Not a huge enhancement, but definitely a nice little perk.
  • Premium Wi-Fi – Starting this Saturday February 14, all Hyatt hotels will offer complimentary WiFi, but those with Diamond and Platinum status will receive a “Premium” connection.

Unfortunately I no longer have Diamond status at Hyatt, but it was great for the many years I did have it in the past. Diamond status has always had nice benefits (free breakfast, club lounge, late checkout, 50% bonus, etc.) and these minor enhancements will make it even that much more desirable.
