If you are a Visa Signature card holder (just to name a few: CapitalOne Venture, Marriott Rewards, AAdvantage, Chase Sapphire Preferred, etc.) you can get a free 90 day trial of platinum status. This promotion ends Friday May 11th, so tomorrow is your last day to register. You can register here. Also,t he 90 day trial will start the day you register.
So what does Platinum status at Hyatt get you?
- Preferred room based on availability (I wouldn’t count on a huge suite upgrade with Platinum status, but it never hurts to try)
- Complimentary in-room internet
- 2pm late checkout
- 15% point bonus on all base points earned (if you are instead going for the Hyatt 5x airline promotion, you will not get the 15% bonus points)
There is absolutely no reason to not go for the trial even if you have no intentions of staying at a Hyatt hotel.
The other good thing is that if you were interested in getting the Hyatt credit card the current offer of 2 free nights will give you 2 additional suite upgrades to use on a paid stay if you are a Platinum.
The best current offer for the Hyatt credit card is the following (application link):
- 2 free nights after you spend $1,000 on the card in the first three months
- If you are a Platinum member: 2 free suite upgrades on paid stays for a maximum of 7 nights (unfortunately they cannot be used with your free night redemption)
- If you are a Diamond member: Those two free nights you earn are actually Suite free nights (keep in mind that suites are not available at all hotels; also hotels that are already all suites will not upgrade you to the next category)
- The 2 free nights/2 free suite upgrades expire one year after they are earned (after your first purchase on the card)
- Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum membership for as long as you are a cardmember
- No foreign transaction fees
- One free category 1-4 night each anniversary year (award will post to your account 6-8 weeks from your account anniversary date) – free night certificate is expires 12 months from issued
- Earn 3 points per $1 spent at all Hyatt hotels and 1 point per $1 on all other purchases
- $75 annual fee (not waived for the first year)
This is a card I personally do not have right now, but can foresee getting in the near future (assuming the 2 free night offer is still around). Since the 2 free nights expire 12 months after getting the card, I have no current valuable use for those free nights. My plan is to get this card prior to a vacation which involves an expensive Hyatt stay – i.e., Paris, Tokyo, Maldives, etc. Those hotels go for $600-$1,000/night. The other reason I like this card, similar to the Marriott credit card, is that the annual free night certificate (if used properly) outweighs the $75 annual fee. There are some category 4 gem’s available for a high cost. I stayed at the Hyatt Escala Lodge in Park City a few months ago, which was going for about $300/night. This is a slope-side category 4 property!
Other than the free nights, this card serves very little value to me right now. I stay at Hyatt enough to earn Platinum or Diamond status each year, so the Platinum status benefit is not important to me. I also get no foreign transaction fees with a few other cards in my wallet now anyways, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Marriott Rewards Visa, CapitalOne Venture. While the 3 points per $1 spent at Hyatt hotels can be valuable, the Chase Sapphire Preferred gets 2 points per $1 spent on all hotels (along with air, car rental, etc.) plus a 7% annual bonus so in theory I am only losing minimal points by using my Sapphire Preferred over Hyatt and my paid stays are not very expensive.
Let’s hope the two free night offer stays around for awhile! And remember to register for your free 90 day platinum status by tomorrow!

Where do you see the $150 statement credit? I can’t find that anywhere.
@JC – it is $75 and there are two offers out there so let me double check to ensure this is the correct one.
It used to be a $75 statement credit for this card. Did they bump it up recently?
@AK – you are correct. It’s $75 statement credit. Looks like I was thinking of the AA card as I was typing it. I have updated.
That’s tragic, I was quite hoping it was $150; I would’ve signed up in a jiffy 🙁 I might sign up anyway, free night every year definitely makes it worth the annual fee 🙂
I don’t see the 150$ statement credit..and I was under the impression there were offers for a 79$ statement credit
@Bitachu – I updated the post a little bit ago with the $75 statement credit. I also deleted the links for the moment until I get home and can include the best link out there. Changing links on the iPhone while walking home from work is serving to be a little challenging!
[…] We Like reminds us all that Friday, May 11, is your last opportunity to get free Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum status for 90 days just be registering ANY Visa Signature card. Actually, pretty much everyone has been yelling about […]
I don’t have any Hyatt stays in the foreseeable future. Should I get the free trail or wait till another time? I don’t want to be precluded from a status match in the future when I might need it..any thoughts?
@Charles – I do not believe this will prevent you from a status match to another status promotion in the future.
Please help me. I have the chase sapphire preferred as does my husband and i have been trying to register us with our respective cards for the platinum status for DAYS now.. and no cigar! i’ve done it through Chrome and IE, from both my work computer and home and still nothing. any suggestions? People report seeing it reflected in their accounts within 24-48 hours. i’ve been trying for weeks now.. any ideas?
@BostonSun – I can imagine that is very annoying! I am really not sure what the issue is. Currently you have no Hyatt status correct? I was able to enroll myself (although I already have platinum status).
You followed the two step process correct, by first entering your Visa Signature card number and then your Hyatt number on the next screen, correct?
yes.. did all that. got a confirmation screen also saying “you will enjoy platinum status for 90 days” etc. etc. but it never shows up in the account. and no, we dont currently have elite status. Just gold level. do you know if there’s a customer support line for just this promo?
i guess you can’t win em all.. 🙁
