Last year I wrote about an on-demand car service company, Gett, that was offering $10 rides throughout all of Manhattan. That meant you could get a ride from the Upper East Side to Tribeca for only $10!! For those of you familiar with Manhattan, you know that those two areas are on the opposite side of the island and can easy cost $20+ in a regular taxi.
For 2015, they have decided to keep the $10 promotional rate, but only for a select area of Manhattan. Going forward, you can get a $10 flat rate between 59th Street and Houston, and as far east and west as you need to go. While this will not help people trying to get to/from uptown or the financial district, it is still a great rate for the included area. And a taxi most definitely will still cost more than $10 from one area of the grid to another.
For those of you who are knew to Gett, it is a similar concept as Uber where you can request your car through their phone app and pay with your credit card already on file. On the Gett app you set the tip for each ride, although you can change it per ride if you want to as well. They also have set prices from Manhattan to the NYC airports: to JFK is $70, to LGA is $48, to Newark is $67. You can also pre-book a ride to the airport 3 hours in advance. I personally wouldn’t use Gett to go to the airport as the prices seem to be more expensive then Dial 7 and you are paying for tolls not only while you are in the car, but also the tolls incurred on the return.
To try out Gett, they are giving new members $20 to sign up if you sign up through a referral link. To do this, you will need to first download the Gett App and in the Coupon Code field enter GTJENNI56 (my referral link, but feel free to leave your referral link in the comments section as well – the referee will also earn $20 in credits after the referral takes their first ride).
I personally have used Gett and had great service. I do know a few people have complained about a car not being available for 10 or so minutes, but if you aren’t in a rush it could be cheaper than Uber. It is one of the car service companies I listed in my Best Car Service Apps post.

Dan:
In your experience did you really get a black car? I ended up in a Corolla driven by what looked like a college student. It seemed more like Lyft or UberX. I reached out to Gett about this and they claimed that all their drivers are licensed commercially, but never answered about the car selection. It says all over their website “luxury black cars”. Obviously the color is not the key here, how luxurious can a Corolla get?
Did you only have luxury full-size automobiles?
Thanks,
Kyle
They ended this deal yesterday.
@Damion – Thanks for letting me know.
Or I should say they changed it. Is was $10 below 110th. Now it’s 4 miles or 30 minutes with other conditions and stipulations.
