While I’ve never used the app Giftagram before today (due to it being slightly over priced), there are a few promotions you can combine to actually be able to purchase a gift for a friend (or yourself) at an extremely reasonable price and actually cheaper then you’ll probably find anywhere else! Giftagram is actually a pretty cool concept where you can send a gift to someone and you do not need to have their address. You just enter the recipients phone number and email address and they receive a message on how to redeem the gift that was sent their way.
While Giftagram is slightly over priced compared to the same product you can purchase elsewhere, it does seem like shipping is free on many items (not all) and they package it nicely to the recipient (for no additional charge). I personally wouldn’t pay extra for the same product, but if you combine two promotions, you can get quite a deal!
Purchasing a gift at 63% off
Earlier this summer I wrote about a newish app called Drop. With Drop you earn points after making a purchase at a participating merchant with your linked credit/debit card. Right now, they have a one-time offer after making a purchase at Giftagram. Make a $40+ purchase, receive 20,000 Drop points. That is equivalent to $20 and can be redeemed for a variety of gift cards, such as Starbucks, Old Navy, Dunkin’ Donuts, iTunes, Amazon, Nordstrom, Whole Foods, etc. I always redeem for Amazon gift cards since I make purchases at Amazon all the time anyways and think of it as cash. If you are new to Drop you can sign up here or use my referral code ov7lj – feel free to leave your referral code in the comments section as well. FYI: Make sure you activate the offer prior to making the purchase!
If you are new to Giftagram, which I assume most of you are, you can sign up with a referral code and receive $15 off your first gift purchase. That means you can purchase a $55 gift, get $15 off your purchase, and your final price of $40 will trigger the 20,000 bonus points from Drop. Since the 20,000 points is equivalent to $20, this means your $55 purchase will ultimately cost you only $20! That is a great deal! Giftagram is only available for iOS devices – you can download it here and enter promo code JY248974 to get your free $15 – feel free to leave your referral code in the comments section as well.
My Experience
Today was my first time ever using Giftagram. I actually have a friend who recently got engaged and wanted to send them a little engagement present. Nothing major, but just something to congratulate them and recognize this happy occasion. I saw on Giftagram that I can purchase a set of two Riedel champagne flutes for $59. While this is $19 more then Bed Bath & Beyond (after applying a 20% off BB&B coupon, although doesn’t take into consideration tax), I am actually getting a better deal by getting $35 off (the $15 sign up credit + $20 Drop credits).
Giftagram seems to be a great place if you need to send a baby gift, engagement gift, client gift, birthday gift, etc. While I am not sure I’d use Giftagram too often, it does seem like a great place for certain types of gifts. I can foresee my husband using it often when he needs to send a client some sort of care package (and on an expense account!).
But for now, I am happy being able to send a gift to my friend at a discount and I do not have to even ask for her address! Did you find any good buys?
