Last year IHG introduced a new status level – Spire Elite. Although I hardly ever stay at IHG hotels, I was was able to earn this status due to signing up for their credit card – I totally did not deserve it. In my opinion, this status doesn’t give too many perks over the what used to be Platinum status.
Last week, I received an email status that since I was a Spite Elite member with IHG, I would receive Hertz Five Star status. While I’d prefer other benefits such as lounge access and free breakfast (something that other chains give their top tier status members), receiving an upgrade to a partner program is always welcomed. I also don’t rent much with Hertz (I find their prices to be slightly higher) so I am not sure how often I’ll actually take part of the perks that come with this status. Also, this isn’t the best status Hertz has to offer, but it is something.
So what does Hertz Five Status get you? A one class upgrade, 10% bonus on points earned, and 675 reward points after every 15 qualifying rentals. Nothing to write home again, but as I mentioned above, it is still something. Typically you can earn this status by having 7 rentals within a calendar year. Also, sometimes having status can get you a much better car then originally reserved (more then just a one class upgrade), but that all depends on availability.
Even if you have yet to receive this email, if you are an IHG Spire Elite status member you can go to this site, enter your IHG member and request your upgraded Hertz status.
