Welcome to another post of helping a reader travel! As I’ve mentioned before, I have not been to every destination (unfortunately), but do get questions from friends and other blog readers on all sort of travel destination questions. Thus far, we’ve been able to help other readers travel to MauiThe Greek IslandsPacific Coast HighwayArgentina /Buenos AiresCosta RicaCape Cod & The IslandsIcelandGenevaCanadian RockiesRomeIsraelPeruLas VegasStockholm, ChicagoParisHanoi, AustinPuerto Rico, and Bruges.

So this weeks travel destination includes Cabo San Lucas. I received the following email from reader Jim:

“I’m looking to go somewhere warm over the winter and Cabo came to mind. I’ve never been, but living on the West coast it is an easy flight. This would be with my wife and two kids – 9 and 11. There are a bunch of different chain and non-chain hotels and would love some recommendations on where to stay. Also, is a car needed? Things to do while in Cabo would also be helpful. I have yet to purchase plane tickets so if there are other warm weather vacation destinations you’d recommend instead, I’m all ears.”

If you’ve ever been to Cabo and have any recommendations, let’s help out reader Jim by commenting below.

Also, if you have any upcoming travel where you need some help, feel free to email me at dealswelike@gmail.com to be a featured “Help a Reader Travel” Monday special. Thanks!

We stayed at the Westin Los Cabos earlier this year. Loved it! As a plat we got club room access but you can also pay for it and I think it’s well worth it. Huge breakfast and evening spread and the evening included a 2h open bar too.

Wasn’t too impressed with the city itself. I would suggest Playa del Carmen over Cabo.

Hilton is great. Food is excellent and nice upgrade for a diamond. Beach is swimmable too. No car needed. Winter is a great time to whales right from the hotel too. You should see whales or dolphins daily. Pool has a shallower kids part as well. Cabo is drier too. Think Phoenix weather but on the beach.

I am very excited to see someone else is looking for tips on Cabo. While still a long time away – June 2013 – I will be going with my wife and 6yo son, and staying at Hilton Los Cabos. I look forward to reading everyone’s comments. And, thanks!

I stayed at the Westin last Xmas and it was wonderful. I second paying the difference for a club room. Not only do you save a considerable amount with the breakfast and appetizer and drink offerings, but you’ll get a room with a fabulous ocean view (all rooms have at least partial ocean view I believe but club rooms are in the center and look directly out at the ocean). We did not rent a car, but cabs are expensive, so if you plan to go into either city often, renting is the way to go. Great weather and a wonderful trip. Highly recommend.

“Great place, except for the pressure to buy the timeshare.”

Cabo Villas is a great resort. It is 3 minutes walk from the marina and downtown Cabo San Lucas. It has a beautiful beach which can go without fear that the sea will drag. They have good restaurants on site, and there are many good restaurants nearby. We went to a room with sea view. The average age of the guests was 40. Not a place for singles or young people looking party. We went the second week of January and the weather was perfect. It was very cold or very hot. Now the bad news: it is a timeshare. Just arrived, began to pressure us. We could not check in until we accept to go to a 90 minute presentation the next morning, and just accept because we wanted to go to our room after a long flight. We told them that we had bought at a silent auction (timeshare owner donated it) and we were not interested in buying. The next morning tour and the pressure to sell the timeshare that made two people were exhausting. One of them was rude and discourteous when we told him directly, “No thanks”. After that they left us alone and had a good time. We hear many complaints from people who bought the timeshare.
