Welcome to another post of helping a reader travel! Sorry I’ve been slacking in this weekly series, but I promise to continue this as many have seemed to benefit from these reader tips. As I’ve mentioned before, I have not been to every destination (unfortunately), but do get questions from friends and other blog readers on all sort of travel destination questions. Thus far, we’ve been able to help other readers travel to Maui, The Greek Islands, Pacific Coast Highway, Argentina /Buenos Aires, Costa Rica, Cape Cod & The Islands, Iceland, Geneva, Canadian Rockies, Rome, Israel, Peru / Inca Trail , Stockholm, Chicago, Paris, Hanoi, Austin, Puerto Rico, Bruges, Salzburg, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Jamaica, India/Golden Triangle, Auckland, Singapore, Moscow, The Oregon Coast, Seattle, Portland, Hawaii Islands, Alaska Skiing, Brazil, Prague, Budapest, Paraguay, Cabo San Lucas, Edinburgh, San Diego, and Hilton Head.
So this weeks travel destination includes Dubrovnik, Croatia. I received the following email from reader Jill
“I am planning a trip to Dubrovnik and would love some recommendations. The trip is not yet scheduled and I am flexible on when I can go. Is there a certain time of year I should look at? I know summer time is the best, but when is shoulder season so rates are slightly cheaper, but weather is still great? Also, any recommendations on where to stay, things to see, and places to eat? We’d also love to explore more of Croatia outside of Dubrovnik, any recommendations outside of the city as well? Thank you!
If you’ve ever been to Dubrovnik and have any recommendations, let’s help out reader Jill by commenting below.
Also, if you have any upcoming travel where you need some help, feel free to email me at dealswelike@gmail.com to be a featured “Help a Reader Travel” Monday special. Thanks!

We are headed there ourselves early September. We are starting in Split ( I’ve been here before and highly recommend it ), then taking the ferry over to Hvar. We will stay there overnight, then take the ferry to Korcula. Will spend the night there again, then take the ferry to Dubrovnik. Amex platinum concierge sent me guides/recommendations for all those towns, as well as restaurants. I can forward with an email address. Plitvice natl park is also beautiful, as well as the northern part of the country ( eg Pula ). But an itinerary from Dubrovnik to split seeing the beautiful islands of Hvar,Korcula, Vis, is more realistic/doable. Hope this helps.
I just got back from Dubrovnik. We stayed at Hotel Neptun, part of the Importannae Resort complex. It was a great location to stay at: easy 15 min. Bus ride to Old Town Dubrovnik. Has a boardwalk along the Adriatic that is connected to restaurants/bars about 10 min. Walk. As you approach the restaurants/bars, lots of vendors selling tours.. We stopped The first one…we booked two tours. One to Korcula and Ston ( It was an Aminco ? Tour) Hotel pick up and drop off. We also did the 3 island tour..this excursion was great and is sold every where in Dubrovnik We spent one day in the Old Town and it was enough for us..Go early to built the crowds as you walk the wall. it costs 90 kuna to walk the wall and is worth it..
Looking to go there next summer so very interested in the responses! Thanks!
BTW, there’s a typo: “If you’ve ever been to Hilton Head and have any recommendations, let’s help out reader Jill by commenting below.”
Swap out HH for Dubrovnik 🙂
I hired a driver and went to Trebinje in neighboring Bosnia. Mostar is also close and supposed to be very nice
