So this weeks travel destination includes Savannah, Georgia. As I mentioned last week, my parents are traveling to Charleston and Savannah in a few weeks. While I’ve been to both, I was there for no more than a day. So here is an email from my dad, Rich:

“After we spend a day or two in Charleston we are headed to Savannah. We have a free night to use and I believe it puts us in Midtown. Is that an okay area, or should we really find another hotel and stay right in the heart of everything. We do no mind parking the garage for the day and not seeing the hotel again till 10pm. We probably only have 1-2 days in Savannah, so what are the highlights? Any tours you’d suggest? I also heard the food is great, any specific recommendations? Thank you to all my daughters readers for helping me out.”

If you’ve ever been to Savannah and have any recommendations, let’s help out my dad by commenting below.

Also, if you have any upcoming travel where you need some help, feel free to email me at dealswelike@gmail.com to be a featured “Help a Reader Travel” Monday special. Thanks!

They have a trolley that runs around town – I think it starts at the visitors center and was complementary (or very little $$) when I visited Savannah a few years back. A good convenient way to see the highlights without driving yourself.

I have been to Savannah several times and we always stay in the riverfront area just for the convenience of being able to walk everywhere. The restaurant in the Bohemian Rocks on the Roof I believe its called was great and a fun atmosphere. Vic’s on the River was an other great one. If you are in the mood for a drink make sure to find Jen’s & Friends martini bar, they have the best martini’s I have ever had!!
If you make it over to Tybee Island, The Crab Shack restaurant is a staple in that area and they have great seafood.
Have fun!

I second Vic’s for their amazing happy hour specials. Make an early dinner out of it and you won’t be sorry.

Stayed at the Hampton Inn on a paid rate and also wasn’t disappointed. After the Hilton deval, I am not sure I would make the same decision. I am not particularly interested in accumulating HH points anymore, but it was a lovely hotel.

Stay at B&B in Savannah is my recommendation.

Midtown is not far from downtown and is not a bad option if the price is right. We stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Midtown this time last year and were satisfied. Quick and pleasant drive downtown where there are ample parking garages, and even closer to Forsyth Park. A good midtown restaurant was Toucan Café. Downtown, check out Moon River Brewing Company.

Highly recommend one of the ghost tours, otherwise, we just walked around and paid to enter various of the old houses.

I echo most of the previous comments. Take the bus tour before attempting any exploring on your own. The river front area has many great sights and restaurants. Easy walk to other shopping and restaurants. Midtown is fine for lodging, but river front is the most convenient.
