This week travel destination includes Vietnam as a whole. I’ve already hit on Hanoi, but I received an email from reader Gene needing some help planning his vacation traveling to multiple cities throughout Vietnam. He is also trying to figure out how to get from one location to another. The email stated:
“Whats the best way to travel from SGN to Mui Ne, to Hoi An, to Hue, to Halong Bay, to Sapa, and most importantly, from Sapa to Angkor Wat? My goal is to have a continuous route and to minimize backtracking to save time. Additionally, how much time would you recommend staying in each location and are there any other cities within Vietnam I am missing?
If you’ve ever been to Vietnam and have any recommendations, let’s help out reader Gene. In the coming weeks I will hit on other cities within Vietnam, such as Saigon, Hoi An, Halong Bay, and any other that are requested.
Also, if you have any upcoming travel where you need some help, feel free to email me at dealswelike@gmail.com to be a featured “Help a Reader Travel” Monday special. Thanks!

Perfect timing – I just booked a 12 day trip to Vietnam in business using miles before the United devaluation. I usually spend tons of time gathering some good travel information since I never book with any tour agencies. This should save me quite a bit of leg work!
I spent a couple weeks last March (2013) making my way from Hanoi, to Halong Bay, to Saigon, Siem Reap, Phnom Pehn and finally Bangkok. My advice is to spend less time in Saigon and more in Hanoi. Most of the Halong Cruises we researched include a pickup in Hanoi, so that’s a no-brainer. Flights between these cities were extremely cheap and the alternatives (trains, buses, rental cars) would have added much in-transit time, time which we didn’t have.
