For those who were not aware, the Radisson Aruba Casino & Resort has been sold! For the past 6+ months there has been much speculation on who was going to actually buy the property. Rumors for awhile were Hilton and RUI, but Hilton always seemed to be the promising buyer. Back in June, it was confirmed that Hilton would in fact be purchasing the resort and that the resort would turn over on July 15th. Well that day has come and as anticipated, Hilton is the proud owners of what was once the Radisson Aruba. Prior posts discussing the sale: Aruba Radisson Being Sold, Make Reservations Now! and The Latest with the Radisson Aruba
When the decision was made that Hilton would be purchasing the resort, there was no indication whether a) existing reservations would be honored, and b) the category for redeeming points. While we still are not 100% about existing reservations (specifically those using points), we do know that the resort is pricing out at a category 9 property. I am not surprised by that decision (the highest level is a category 10). This means to redeem your Hilton points it will require anywhere between 50,000 and 80,000 points per night for a free room. Hilton has a sliding scale where you can redeem less points for off peak times and more points during prime time. Here is the Hilton Aruba site where you can check out the resort and room prices.
I personally have an upcoming reservation at this property in December and have been confirmed on many occasions by previous Radisson employees that existing reservations WILL be honored. With that being said, that is Radisson making those promises, not Hilton. They made me believe that it was agreed upon in the contract that they would be honored, so I am keeping my fingers crossed and assuming this is true unless I hear otherwise from Hilton. I booked using points when Club Carlson was still offering book one night, get the second night free – a very nice use of points!
What I do not know, however, is if those that booked through Club Carlson will still receive the benefits of having Hilton status. Even Hilton mid-tier members (those with Gold status) receive complimentary breakfast and earning this status is quite easy. I am not sure if they will take into consideration your Club Carlson status, Hilton status, or assume no status since booked through another reservation system.
I stayed at this resort last December and absolutely loved it. It is smack on the beach and the pools are great. While the property lacks some additional resort amenities (even simple things like a ping pong table on the ground), I still think it is a top property. My assumption is Hilton will take the summer and do some renovations on the rooms that were in dire need. Fortunately we stayed in a recently updated room, but my understanding is that one of the towers is very outdated.
If anyone is currently staying at the property or has an upcoming reservation in the near future, please let me know if you’ve heard anything regarding these uncertainties!

Unfortunately, the hotel is showing as a Category 9 for HHonors redemptions. Perhaps someone at Hilton saw your article and agreed that Cat 8 was too reasonable…
But, the points range for Cat 9 is 50,000 to 80,000 points/night – so actually better than you mentioned. And elite members get the 5th night free, bringing the maximum points for a 5 night stay down to the equivalent of 64,000 points/night.
And HHonors does have a Category 10 – so it could be worse…..
@Nigel – Not even sure where my head was at! Thanks for letting me know. I updated the post.
Nigel – Hilton Barbados in a cat 8 and in the winter months its 128,000 points a night… With Aruba being a cat 9 I think it will be crazy the amount of points will be needed in Aruba. Unless I am missing something.
@Karen – the 128,000 points a night is for a non-standard room.
Thanks- just saw that.. funny they have no standard rooms open Jan- mid April.. So, I guess that 128k is normal for Barbados high season. I hope Aruba does not become like that.
Hi,
I also have two rooms booked for March 2016 on club carlson points. I spoke to Hilton and they have yet to say what they are doing with the reservation. One lady told me to call back after August 1st.
I did notice they are only taking bookings til December right now.. not sure if that means anything.
Can you explain Hilton sliding scale on points? I see most days were 70k points this fall during off season. What will it be during the winter months? I notice Barbados Hilton is 50k off season and 122k per night during the winter… Am I missing something or is that possible? That would make the Hilton Aruba around 150k point per night?
Have 10 nights booked over President’s holiday in February. Inquired and received an email from the hotel two days ago and was told all existing reservations will be honored. Noticed on the new website that the hotel is a cat 9. Tried to locate an email address but was unsuccessful. Have expensive airfare booked so hope they don’t pull out the rug.
What was the Hilton email address?
DavidNJ / – were you booked on points?
We’re booked for a stay over the Thanksgiving break on points.
Will the Hilton Aruba give a new confimation number that replaces the old Radisson number for upcoming trips booked with points using Club Carlson.
I have an award booking there via Club Carlson BOGO during the end of December. I am hesitant to book my airfare until I know for sure that my reservation will be honored. I asked Hilton about it on Twitter and was told that existing reservations should be honored, and that notification will be sent out soon. I am not sure how soon that will be, but hopefully it’s earlier rather than later.
Here is email I received directly from Hilton. All reservations prior to the transfer will be honored. I have 8 nights booked on points over President’s holiday so I am relieved. I noticed just a standard room is going for over $600 a night for the time period. I asked if my Club Carlson status would be honored. Last Winter we did 2 stays @ the Radisson, Aruba for a total of 18 nights and were upgraded to a suite both stays w/ gold status.
