Hilton Category Changes

Hilton is going through their quarterly re-categorization of hotel categories. For this particular change, 21 hotels are going up a category and 33 hotels are going down a category. While it is always good to see more hotels moving down then up, most of them are in Turkey. If you have plans to go to Turkey it looks like you can now redeem hardly any points for a free Hilton night (almost all of them are now a category 1). From what I see, there are a few aspirational hotels moving up, so you might want to take a look and book now. These changes are taking effect October 12, 2016.

While you can see a list of all the hotels moving categories here, some more notable properties include:

  • Hilton Dublin – going from a category 5 to 6
  • Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem – going from a category 9 to 10
  • Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian – going from a category 8 to 9

If you are planning a visit to any of the hotels increasing in category, make sure to make those reservations prior to October 12, 2016. If you have an upcoming stay at one of the hotels going down a category, you can cancel and rebook to get some points back.
