I received an email from Hilton today notifying me that they are making some option to the points and miles earned when you stay at their hotel. Currently, there are three “double dipping” options when staying at Hilton hotels:
- HHonors Points and HHonors Points: 10 HHonors Base points + 5 bonus points per eligible U.S. dollar spent – this option means you’ll earn 15 points per dollar spent.
- HHonors Points and Variable Miles: 10 HHonors Base points + 1 airline mile per eligible U.S. dollar spent
- HHonors Points and Fixed Miles: 10 HHonors Base points per eligible U.S. dollar spent + 500 miles per stay (100 miles per stay at Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites® and Homewood Suites®)
Unfortunately, Hilton is taking away the third option (HHonors Points and Fixed Miles) that allows you to earn a fixed number of miles on all Hilton stays. This was a great option for those inexpensive one-night stays as you’d earn a fixed amount regardless of your total bill. This change goes into affect January 6, 2014.
While I hate when any loyalty program makes updates to their program that are not in favor for the consumer, this one is not a big deal in my mind. I personally am not staying at Hilton hotels often enough for it to matter. But there were some great promotions in the past on getting bonus miles on the fixed miles rate.
- You can read more about Hilton’s double dipping option here and how to select your desired option. This is from a past blog post which I guess will now have to be updated!
